Found this in the ZF trans pan

Anybody know what it is? It's about the size of a dime. Transmission works OK. Looks like a two position selector of some sort.

I had a 85 f150 and found something like that in the AOD pan. I couldn't find it in any manual so ended up taking it to a dealer to see if anyone there knew what it was and where it went. Older mechanic walked in and said it was the factory plug for the filter during assembly, and that my 20 year old truck had never had the pan off before. Sounds like that's what you've got.

Ha figured it out. It's a piece from my Craftsman ratchet that broke while I was removing the pan bolts. Happy it wasn't from the transmission!

How does a piece of a wrench get inside of the pan when your removing external bolts? They must have been gorilla tight.

It was in the drain pan not the trans pan. Sorry that wasn't very clear. I didn't see it until I was emptying the drain pan into my 5gal bucket for recycling.
