100 gig mp3 player... No talk and days of nothing but music that I like anywhere in the world with no repeats.. :D

I'm not a Stern fan and I really can't stand any type of "talk radio" even the news.. I'd like to just listen to the music and that's it.... I can't even stand the TV news anymore except for the weather and even that they can't get right.. I do think that the XM weather like the Garmin 376c uses is kind of cool though.. I just refuse to pay to listen the radio unless it had "on demand" where I could pick all my own songs from a list of 100,000 or so.. That's why I stick with the MP3 player..

I'm with you on that - I just drove to WI and back from So Cal - put my iPOD on random and barely heard a repeat the whole time - and the good news is that I don't have to pay $10/month to listen to it.

Well, with someone like Stern, you either like him or hate him. Whether you like him or hate him you have to admit he's been doing it longer than anyone else (doing what he does) and he still has quite a fan base. So I wouldn't lump him in with Paris and the other people which were mentioned. He's had staying power.

As far as Fox News Channel is concerned, this shouldn't be a shock. This has been going back and forth for quite some time. I doubt it has anything to do with Stern. It's probably got more to do with what Sirius is willing to pay Fox than anything else. I don't know the details of that but I'd bet that's what the hub bub is about. Fox doesn't care who Sirius has on their service.

I used to have XM, switched to Sirius because I got bored with the progamming on XM (some people love it some people don't). Been with Sirius for over a year and I love the programming (overall). I listen to Octane, Faction Nation, Alt Nation, Hard Attack, BBC, Raw Dog, Kid Stuff (it's for my son...REALLY), traffic/weather for NYC/Philly, Sirius Pops and a few others. I really like the old time radio channel (can't remember the name/number) but just don't spend enough time listening to listen to the old serials. I'm listening to more channels than I ever thought I would.

Oh, I also have a 40GB iPod I listen to as well. Just depends on what my mood is...

Sounds to me like the two are very similar.

I have certainly found plenty to listen to so far....but the problem is similar to having Sat. TV (which we have at home)....I change channels all the time b/c I'm think I'm missing something better somewhere else. Does that mean I have committment problems?! ;)

I don't mind paying for it b/c my antenna (short, flexible one) gets HORRIBLE reception and I was only getting 2-3 local channels that I hated. Now I wish my commute was longer so I can listen more. I really want the portable one too.

Eric-you can program the radio to find artists/songs that you like which is pretty cool, so you can avoid a lot of the other stuff you might not want.

I just like having lots of options b/c I listen to many different types of music. My husband basically stays on 2-3 stations on his.

so essentially what your saying is that people who decide to inform themselves on domestic news and geo-political events are what?

er...informed?

People who staple themselves to one source for their information are not. Witness the Freepers running loose around here! ;)

Well, I'm not ashamed to say I bought Sirius because of Stern. (Also I can't stand FM commercials and I can't get any bluegrass stations in NorCal.) Sometimes he says stuff that makes me cringe in a good way, and sometimes in a bad way.

You think Howard is not going to have commercials?? Hmmm, I say give it time he will.

I remember that was the big sell on basic cable TV when introduced, no commercials. That lasted about a year.

Stern is a big ball of suck. Personally, his 15 minutes were up years ago. Potty humor and strippers on the radio isnt my idea of funny (O & A are not any better, but XM didnt lay out the kind of coin to get them that Sirrus did to get Stern). Stern can be lumped in with Paris, Lindsey and the rest of the entertainment group that should just go away. I have been a XM subscriber for years and cannot listen to FM anymore because of the commercials etc.

On the Fox News thing. I listen to/watch FOX more than any other news channel. The major networks lost it long ago and CNN just doesnt seem to know what is important when it comes to news. Plus, Cavuto (sp?) in the afternoon usually has a great wrap up on the business end of stuff.

I have to agree with that...the first thing my husband said when listening to XM was "I thought this was commercial free?"

Some of the news and comedy channels have ads for random online businesses, software, etc. Most of the music channels just mention the name of the station. But for me, it's still better than the free radio I was getting!

Oh and Dave--Weather Channel used to have weather too....now all I see is "STORM STORIES" (with dramatic background music)!!

The Weather Channel does more to worry the hell out of Floridians during Hurricane season than it does to keep them informed. Nothing like seeing the same pictures of damage over and over to make you feel certain that the next crunch from outside is that 5' diameter oak crashing onto the roof!

During Hurricane season, I would prefer a Paint Drying channel! :D

I've been a die-hard fan of the Weather Channel since I was a kid....that being said.....I have to agree with James about their most recent hurricane season coverage.....although, being far from family it makes me feel both better AND worse about what is going on down there.

There is a joke that if Jim Cantore is in your front yard, you need to get the hell out of town. When I was at the airport after Thanksgiving (Nov. 30), Jim actually got off the plane that my sis was getting ready to board--I was really tempted to run after him and get his autograph!!!! But, he must have walked straight out and gotten in a car b/c he was gone before I could even think about it. My mom said "it's the last day of the hurricane season, I'll be he's here to do a follow-up report" and she was right. He broadcast from the beach in Biloxi the next day.

BUT, we digress.....back to XM. I'm heading home....going to my car to listen to some good tunes! Cheers everyone!

I realize Stern will have commericals. Heck, even I can't talk for hours on end. What I meant was I don't like FM commericals while listening to music.

However, I wonder how long commercial-free satellite radio will last....

Well I like to get my information from a "Fair and Balanced" source. I get both sides and can make my own conclusions from it.

All of XM's music channels are commercial free.

TopTracks is the best, except they play too much Steely Dan.

I also listen to O&A on my commute to work in the morning. Very entertaining for the most part, they have pretty much figured out that they can't just do the tired old bits with strippers a la Stern. I still have to change the channel sometimes, but pretty good for the most part. I used to listen to stern maybe 7-8 years ago, and those bits were tired way back then. What is the thrill of listening to a stripper anyway?
