me too, back in the day.
i started with 3/4" u-matic machines (Sony type 5s), which were modified to record timecode on 1/2 of the channel 1 audio track.
back then, trying to do a chroma-key anything like the jeep video would have taken about 30 minutes less than forever.
I used to shoot weddings for our friends as a gift. I still have a couple 1" edit masters, and a couple BetaCam masters.
CG on a Chyron, echolab SEG, sony controller, all tape-based.
yep, those were the days.
now any upstart with a half-way decent computer, a firewire port, and a DVCam camcorder has the technology to do what used to cost a small truckload of cash.
Note that "having the technology" to shoot/edit does not necessarily translate into "having the talent" to shoot/edit.
