I am starting the front gasket replacement today. Any tips tricks or what-not are welcome.

Tip 1 would be where to use rtv and where not to. Rave says to fit the cover gasket dry. Will it hurt to put on some copper gasket sealer? Same question on the oil pan.

I got the timing chain and gears and gaskets from Justin@Lucky8 and for the unbelievable cost of $69.00 american dollars. Thanks again Justin and your check is in the mail.

I use avaiation grade sealent(light coating); kind of like Indian head gasket sealent on both water pump and cover gasket.
I also use it on the rear of the oil pan gasket(big blobs), under the gasket and on the block.

The cover bolts I clean and use blue lock tight on all the bolt threads. I use rtv on the long bolts that go through the water pump through the cover to the block with blue lock tight on the threads.

over there
get a can of high tack and put the front gasket on the block not the cover. What he ^said about the front cover bolts, don't crank the bolts down too tight or you may tear the paper gasket.

I took the 4 bolts out of the oil filter adapter and it still won't come off. It will spin but won't come off. What am I missing?

The adaptor comes off with a hard straight pull. There is an o-ring (need to replace the o-ring) holding the adaptor to the front cover.

I'll give that a try. I was covered in grease and oil all day yesterday so I am hesistant to try it tonight but I just might. Would a small prybar work?

As a side note the front cover is being a stuck bitch as well. I actually stopped last night before I got pissed and broke it off with a BFH.:banghead:

Working the cover off of the oil pump is a bitch. After getting livid, I just gave someone some gloves and asked them to pull the "big aluminum piece" away from the motor and they did it in a few seconds. Be careful with the pry bar as to not score the metal up

Got the cover off. It appears that if you take the 2 bolts out of the oil pick-up tube it slides right off. With the tube connected it moves just enough to trick you into thinking it's moving so progress is being made. Progress is not being made.
