So right now I am considering putting a locker in the front. I don't want to do ARB. So was thinking about taking the True Trac out of the rear, putting it in the front and sourcing a Detroit for the rear.

I have the tire size 33's that I want - won't go bigger - so will keep the standard gearing.

What are thoughts on doing a True Trac in the front, and keeping the TT in the rear?
vs Detroit rear and TT in front?

Yes - I have the LT230 TC as well

I've heard nothing but good things pertaining to the TruTrac Front/Detroit Rear. Guess it just depends how hard you wheel and how often you drive your truck on the streets

I like my TT front/Detroit rear set up on 33s. It's no selectable locker but it is way stronger and does help with traction.

thanks guys...I have not had a problem at all - and I don't wheel it extreme but feel the extra lock up front will help. I am going to go with a true trac - LT230 - true trac as I have sourced a TT and it has been hard to get hold of a Detroit, so for now we will see how it goes.

True test if I really need it will be to see how things go at Rausch Creek this weekend.

Hi There .I have been running a true trac in the front an d rear of my disco1 for 2 years and LOVE it .The traction you get off road is astounding. You only have to be aware that you do have a true trac in the front and making slow turn in the mud can be difficult. Thats the only down side I have seen off roading with a true trac in the front and the rear .When I install the Salisbury in the front axle ill be installing another true trac in the front .

With a ARB in the front you cant steer on the trail and you cant use it on the road.

All you do is install the true trac and regular gear oil and forget it lol so to speak.

yeah - cheers. As I hardly drive on the road in it - only to LR Events the onroad stuff doesn't concern me. Looking forward to seeing the difference at the next event. I won't have it in this weekend for ROTR.

Craig, John K up in your area(actually MD I think) has a RRClassic with dual Trutracs and he was pretty pleased with it.
The Detroit will obviously suffer more onroad...

If you're going to trailer it behind the big diesel then go Detroit/Detroit

Was there not some big thread about running a Detroit in the front a few years back?

As for the Dual TT's. I used to run that setup in my DI and was very happy with it. For normal trail use they were great and didn't really require any effort. When you get into a wheel up in the air rock crawling situation you really need to use your left foot a lot. Once you know how to use them with a little effort you can keep up with similar trucks with ARB's.

electric things go wrong, not saying others don't either but...with ARB's it is just a matter of when, not if, they fail on you. A pump can go bad - o-rings leak etc... yeah, yeah I know some will post up and say that their ARB has serviced them well for X years, with no worries at all. Cool.

Not me, I am going to keep it all mechanical...I have enough electrical issues to deal with.

the LT 230 will be a big improvement just in itself for aiding traction. and yes, I had my ARBs for a long time without any problems. at the same time, dual TruTracs with a lockable center diff is a pretty formible set-up.

I can't believe what I'm reading.
An Aussie who won't swallow the ARB pill.... :smilelol:

I put my ARB's in my RRC in 2004. They were used.
Carefully ran my wires and airlines.
I have never had an ARB failure.

Well, only once but that was when a mouse chewed some of my wiring harness a few years ago but it was quickly fixed.

I've never had an ARB airline fail or the pump( a QuickAir2 from 2004) fail.

Having said that, the install is more complicated. I would guess it takes twice as long, than if you're just putting diffs in.

I just moved my ARBs from one RRC to another RRC and after I got the 3rds and axles in I was thinking...Damn...still gotta run power, run air lines, secure everything, etc, etc.
