Going to Ocho Rios? in two months for the honeymoon. Anyone that has been, I'm just looking for some feedback. What to do, where to go ect. I was planning on strolling around in a Diesel 110 in Aruba but that idea got shitcanned some how.

So to anyone who has been I'd love some feedback.

Ahh, Jamaica, the asshole of the caribbean, a few things to know,
1.dont stray too far from your hotel compound, yes behind all the lush vegatation is a large barbed wire fence keeping you safe from panhandlers and the like
2. everyone wants a tip for EVERYTHING and they get pissed if you dont( even simple directions)
3. watchout in front of the airport , they will put weed in your pockets
4. rent a samuri and drive over the mountain range from the airport area,to the other side, you will come down to a much less crowded area called Bluefield beach, it was at one time very nice, but still keep your guard up.
5. Lobster and seafood is fresh and resonably priced, and so is good bud.
6. you will most likely walk up Dunns river falls, good luck trying it as a couple without some asshole trying to guide you up, of course for a tip
7. Remember all the beauty, and the good times you had, because you wont be going back.

Other advice:

1. Listen to the song "Dreadlock Holiday" by the band 10CC. There's probably a video on the youtubes.
2. Know the difference between an off-spin bowler, a seamer, and backwards square leg.

 Is it really that bad? Like I said I was looking for Aruba and the travel agent suggested Jamaica. Basically I got sick and tired of answering a million questions about the wedding and honeymoon and said do what ever you want. Next thing I know we are going to Jamaica. Trying to make the best of it even though it wasn't my choice.

I'd go to the Virgin Islands. I'd stay away from Nassau, too. I went there one time. The first words out of my mouth when I got off the plane was "Fuck, we should have gone to Hawaii."

i hear its good to keep the spare tire inside the car because they get stolen and then stick you or your credit card company with the charges. i'm sure the rental car company just buys it back from the thief for next to nothing.

Good hiking around the falls in Ocho Rios. I spent two days there on a cruise tour, but that was it.

Spent two months in Kingston once - if you have a chance to go there, pass on that.

I spent a couple months in Jamaica off and on for work. Ocho Rios, Kingston, Montego Bay, and Negril. They all basically suck but I guess Ocho Rios is the best of the worst.

Where are you staying? I would advise against the Sunset Jamaica Grand... Shit hole. Stay at the Riu.

I've been twice, and actually enjoyed it quite alot. x2 on PT's Hedonism suggestion... All inclusive, adults only, and stuff to do.

If you venture out, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I've done the resort thing, and the rent a hotel / house thing...

For the first time, a resort (Hedonism) and organized tours might be the way to go. If you do tours, I suggest an independent like Marzouca ( http://www.marzouca.com/ or http://jamaicajump.com/ ) as opposed to through a resort.

I liked Negril, but that's me. I'd like to experience Kingston, but maybe not as a full destination.

It really depends what you want. If you are the type that would backpack through Europe, get a hotel in some city and figure it out as you go, or take an expedition through a 3rd world country, you'll could enjoy the non-resort areas of Jamaica.

If you like organized tours, nice hotels, cruises, and no risk... Jamaica can offer that in a resort... but there are better places to just lay on the beach and drink stuff with umbrellas in it.

Jamaica is very economically depressed, and rough around the edges, but in general, the people are super nice as a whole... but they can and will take advantage of clueless tourists.

I went to the sandles whitehouse resort it was awesome, the 2 hour bus ride from the airport to the resort sucked, but the resort was great. All the people there were great. The airport (montego bay) was a nightmare. DO NOT let any of the bag handlers carry your bags. They WILL NOT give them back or load them in your bus or car until you give them a tip in the amount the feel suitable. They will be slighty pissed when you dont let them carry them, but you'll be better off, especially when you relize they only need to be carried about 40 feet.

I have a buddy in the music business who is from Jamaica. He told me never ever bother with the cess-pool of Jamaica.
