greasing nipples on driveshaft?

Does this apply to the Disco I only? It appears that the nipples are already there...

I'm under the impresion that you have to screw in the nipples on the driveshaft in order to grease the Disco2... Is that right? If so, what size nipples?

Mine is a D2 also, and seems to be a 1/4" UNF.

I think I used about half a tube. But they are so cheap that I usually keep a couple of extra laying around just in case friends come over and we wanna have a greasing party.

Damm Jen you make it hard to keep this thread clean,but it started with grease nipples and shafts.

I was looking for and old post on u-joints and came across this question. Thought this Spicer bulletin might be appreciated.

I've got something to add as well. I put in a new rear prop shaft on a D1 yesterday. I couldn't get the grease gun onto the forward u-joint nipple. If you go out and purchase a gun, make sure that it will service all the nipples before you load it up with grease. I've had my gun for a couple of years and its been fine. I'm going to see if I can't find another to fit with a slimmer wall at lunch.

Get a gun with a longer dipensing tube at the end. Flexible works better in this instance. So longer equipment and with some flex. The D1's with the rotoflex have two nipples to grease on the rear DS. One at the U joint and one on the expansion/contraction bit. The double U jointed ones have one at each U joint and one at the slidey bit - 3 nipples. (Reminds me of Total Recall).

On the D2 front drive shaft, a grease nipple has to be temporarily installed by removing the "grub screw" for greasing... they call out a 1/4" UNF grease nipple.. remove grease nipple, reapply plug..

The nipple is not permanent because the chassis is so close... but only in front.. the rear has the grease nipple permanently installed.

The nipples get bigger but the shaft will get smaller making greasing a bit more difficult and embarrasing.

I just did mine this past weekend

These get so hot

nipple on the shaft. Hit that too.


Its not neccessary to grease your driveshaft

i give her a shot once a month. keeps things happy.

After I see it coming out the caps, I give two more shots.
