The in-cabin bits weren't behaving properly. The handle was a little loose anyway, so I ordered a new actuator and a cable to go with it.
Here's the fucked up part:
I'd already laid the Dynamat before I realized that I hadn't installed the "elbow locking mechanism".
I cut the shape of the hole out nicely, making sure I was able to wrap a bit of the mat around the edges. When I attempted to install the aforementioned "courtesy annoyance peg", I noted that the mechanism didn't function as it should.
It was no surprise, as I'd frequently remove the panels for trips, in case I needed easy access. I'm sure no end of dust got in there. I'm also constantly opening and closing that door. I'd say thirteen years is pretty good for a bunch of plastic crap.
I'd already completely eliminated all the factory wax in the bottom of the door and sprayed new Waxoyl in there. With my new actuator and cable, I won't have to fiddle with the handle anymore, and I can install these new panels knowing everything in there is good.
Well, except the window regulator. I'm sure it will fail within a month of finishing everything up. It's fine now, but I know how these things work...
I think this was a very helpful post, and I'm sure you all enjoyed skipping to the end.
Cheers,
Kennith
