you might try calling british pacific 800-554-4133. They're in SoCal so you might save a few $$ on overnight/2nd day air shipping over east coast vendors.

Best price I found for new marellis, dont know about the newer alts.

If you can't get it overnighted, I'd start heading to Alb, NM using the battery method. You're not that far away.

You can make it to Alb, when you get there call Rob up.

**Might also add no music or air conditioning, that puts a drain on the electrical system. I was stuck one time in Socorro, NM (which is 80 miles south of Alb) so I can feel your pain!

Checker Auto parts in Winslow- 928-289-2410 shows several that will ship next day- prices vary from $199 to $326- most have limited lifetime warranty. Don't know what shipping is- might be worth a call...

Can't you buy an alternator for these trucks from AutoZone or similar places? I know you can for older RRs.....

FWIW

You can. It might last long enough to get you to NM, it might not. Then again its probably going to take longer to get.

i have seen more than my share of Rovers on flatbed Fords.

Good one. Mine has seen remarkably improved fuel economy more than once in just that situation.

I feel your pain =\ last year i was moving, and this driving my disco from cleveland, oh to boise, id. Somewhere in the middle of Nebraska the alternator decided to start destroying itself. So my dad and i went with the buy a couple of batteries and a charger method.

It worked out well for us. we found that a battrey would last for basically a full tank of gas (~3hrs iirc). so we stopped for gas, changed out the battery and kept going. but... the amount of time you'll have on a battery depends on how far gone the alternator is. I believe mine was producing a little bit, so it would feed the electrical system a bit, but not enough to actually charge the battery.

If you do decide to buy some batteries and drive first i'd follow RoverChic's advice. Run nothing that isn't absolutly neccessary: no radio, no ac, no fans, no lights (thus drive during the day if possible), etc. Also I found that walmart is a great place to get the spare batteries since they took the battery back with no questions asked.

Good luck!
