So over the last 3-4 days I noticed a little whine accelerating. Sounded like from the transmission or t-case, nothing bad, just a slight whine.

Well tonight driving down the freeway, all of a sudden it over revs like I hit neutral. I so, I pull over and select D,1,2,3 and reverse, nothing, however when I go back to park I get the short clicking sound as the transmission stops spinning. When it happened I heard no klunk, slam, knock. Nothing. I had to tow it home and now what? Also in park even with CDL locked it will roll forward and backward.

any ideas?

also if it is t-case or transmission, who has one for me?

who in las vegas will swap it out for me..,pref someone who knows land rovers.

Thanks.

edit: I usually can put it in low or high range easy. tried that tonight and I can only lock or unlock, but now no low range, and yes transmission was in neutral. If thats means anything...

I would send a PM to ptschram. He is a very good tech, and can probobly give you some great direction on this one.

I would start by pulling the rear cover off the transfer case and check the transfer case input gear. My Disco I with a R380 had nearly worn through the splines. I replaced it with an Ebay R380 and a new cross drilled input gear. The autos are not as likely to do wear these out. However, that will also give you an idea if the transmission is turning the output shaft. At least that is where I would start.

It sounds as though you T-case might be in neutral. the inability to shift from high to low supports this assumption. Crawl underneath the truck and using either a mirror-on-a-stick, or your hand, reach up and check to see if the hi/lo shifter is functioning. This will be the second one I've heard of breaking this month, if that's it.

IF your shifter is broken or otherwise not functioning, you can drain the oil and remove the bottom cover, this will expose the high/low range gearset. The collar moves back and forth to shfit ranges. If it's in the middle and not engaging either gear, you may have found your smoking gun.

Kensington Motor Cars is in Vegas and I believe they are familiar with Rovers, if their goofy colored Disco is any indication:D

Mike-I'm just a hack, Chris-st. louis is a good tech!

what where the results of the looksee. I would have guessed you were bumped into neutral also.

Meaning you just need to push the little knob either toward the hood or toward the back door to find out. Sometimes it helps if the truck is rolling slightly.
