Hi - any advice? Transmission failed 2 mos after warrant exp & 3 mos after service
Hi - am new here and would love objective advice. I have a 2002 DiscoII w/54k miles - bought certified in Oct 05. Had it serviced in early March, warranty expired end of March. In early June after taking it in b/c the M and S lights were flashing together, indicating an electrical gear box fault, I was told the entire transmission was burnt out and needs to be replaced @ $5200. Our family loves our Discovery, but this is not fun...
I found out I bought the car only 11 days before a new warranty policy on Certified LR's took effect that added 2 yrs to warranty, which would cover this. Needless to say, I'm pretty upset I was not informed a huge change in warranty policy was coming up only a week and a half later - I definitely would have waited.
Any advice on how to approach with LRNA and/or dealers? How often do transmissions completely fail and "burn out" at 54k?
When I had it serviced in early March, I told dealer the M and S lights had been flashing (the 1st time it happened), but they had stopped before I took it in. Also, the ABS and TC had a fault, the cruise control was broken and they found a leak in the engine coolant.
I'd love to hear objective advice and am not looking for anyone to "take sides"; however, something seems off - all these things seem to add up to a transmission problem that could have been caught.
Has anyone heard of LRNA stepping up and doing something like making my car effective under the new policy instead of the old? I don't expect so, but want to do what I can to mitigate a $5200 charge I feel could have been avoided.
Thanks!
