Vehilce if a 2002 D-II. I engage low range, adn it engages properly. Then push the Hill Descent control switch. The Hill Descent light on the upper left of teh dash instrument panel illuminates green, flashes, and chimes. What gives ? Is this normal ? I seem to recall that it used to illuminate green, but not flash or chime. Any comments or guidance on what to look for an how to remedy will be appreciated.

HDC in a 2002 Disco only works in Low Range 1st gear or reverse. It will chime if you are in any other gear or in high range and take your feet off the pedals - warning you that HDC is not active. It will also chime when you deactivate HDC - warning you that HDC is switching off.

HDC works in all 4 gears while in low range on my 04. The speed at which it kicks in is altered depending on the gear selected.

Problem fixed. Owner's manual says to place truck in low range (done), then select HDC (done). Says HDC light will "illuminate" but does not mention chiming. Also said that light will iluminate in amber if there is a fault in the HDC system, which is governed by teh ABS system. Well, mine was engaging and working, but as mentioned above, the light was green and was chiming constantly. So, I figured there must be some sort of sensor switch in the transfer case to tell that the truck is indeed in low range. So, I checked the wires to the sensor in the tranfer case, cleaned the contacts, and VOILA ! all works as advertsied now.

Thanks again to all for the info and tips.

The sensor switch is under the vehicle. If I remember correctly, it is the only electrical wire/connector going to the transfer cae.
