My obdII code reader will read code, but you need to be careful of the translation that the actron gives you. You really need a more detailed description, but the code numbers are correct.

Jack, et al who have read OBD ABS codes w/ your Actron. Are you reading them on the D1 or the D2?

I'm trying to figure out if the problem is "reading" the codes, or "interpreting" what the codes are. Its my understanding right now that the SLABS codes aren't readable via a regular OBD 2 reader. This would indicate that a testbook is sending an escape sequence to switch from an OBD2 protocol to their proprietary protocol. If this is the case, I'll need to sniff that sequence in order to be able to pull ABS codes on a D2.

I also just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is a serial communications geek (embedded hardware/software engineer). He is willing to work with me to "sniff" the serial communications between a testbook and the OBD II port, so we can implement the same thing ourselves in our own free/low price software. The problem I have is getting access to a testbook or autologic unit with an experienced operator for a few hours. Anyone in the Pacific Northwest that can help?

d1s you can blink code using a paper clip.

On a D1, you can use a paper-clip to reset the "service engine" light which is controlled by a "timer" on the odometer, in the passenger footwell. On early OBD-I ('94-95 Discos) the code reader is built-in, under the passenger seat. From '96-on, OBD-II Discos have the standard plug under the steering wheel. As everyone else here is saying, a generic OBD-II reader can read the "mandated" codes, but there's a lot of Rover-specific information that is also available via the proper setup.

FWIW....

Leslie, I can read the abs codes with a paper clip on my '95.

Also, the timer for resetting the "service engine" light is under my passenger seat, not in the passenger footwell.

So much for "facts" on dweb.

Fair enough! ;)

My '99 D1 had the reset in the footwell, my '95 has the read-out under the seat, and the reset for the timer is AWOL....

So, seriously, these things can vary from truck to truck.....

I've pulled all sorts of codes from a D2 with an Actron OBDII code reader.
Including ABS and transmission faults.

go figure.

I have Rovacom and T4 at my disposal but I've definitely pulled the same codes with the Actron. Not all of them by any means, nor does it have the ability to input (eg adjust air suspension or reset adaptive values) but it can pull a lot of codes.

go figure.

What model Actron, or is there only one?

I regularly tell folks not to believe everything the parts houses tell them their code readers say is happening on their trucks. When I'm told that Autozone says they need a new EGR valve, I have to calmly and politely tell them their truck does not have an EGR valve. There have been some long and heated discussions over my refusal to replace an EGR valve on a DI.
