Hood Scoop?

I'm thinking out the box here, so don't stone me too hard if this sounds stupid.

Has anybody thought about a hood scoop for their LR's?

I know for performance it might help a bit, but I'm not to sure about the looks. Can someone photoshop one on a Disco?

Now that I think about it, it might actualy look good,

But there is really nothing for it to function with in there. You could make it do something, and it would be a fun project, but without a lot of time and expence dumped in all it would do is cool the motor a bit and drench the top end in less than skilled water crossings. It happens to everyone at least once.

It would be cool though, and contrary to popular belief, everything does not need 12 different uses to be cool looking. On a hot day in standing traffic, though, I'd imagine it would vent quite a bit of heat.

Cheers,

Kennith

My thoughts exactly. Whats the harm of running your engine a little bit cooler, and I really don't think I will be wading anything too deep because I am in the South West.

If you did a 'cowl induction' rear facing type you'd probably get more cooling effect. A forward facing scoop is often not effective at all unless it's really tall.

That's true...

Kind of hard to imagine a cowl induction scoop on a Disco. It would definately be different. It gets kind of tiring seeing the same vehicle setup over and over again, I think more LR drivers should explore their imaginations.

I think the most imagination from LR owners I have seen comes from the flames they spew when somebody posts a pic on DWeb of something different they have tried...

Sure, when it looks like an abortion - which adding any kind of hood scoop to any LR would.
Ram air forward facing, or rear cowl induction is not going to provide any noticable cooling for an LR nor do the LR motors create enough heat to require such modifications.

RRCs have that air slot that looks a lot like a scoop to me. And they look good.

The discovery might look good with a low, wide scoop located about 3/4 back from the hood's leading edge. If the top of the scoop was cut back a bit or vented, it would functionally allow heat to escape at rest.

Cheers,

I'd have to disagree with you there Luke. These look fitting and yes, they would classify as a LR.

LOL - yeah, and that's a "Stock" motor under the hood, right ?
And the word "fitting" is highly subjective...

I was actually replying to your post prior to your editing of it. Just in response to "Sure, when it looks like an abortion - which adding any kind of hood scoop to any LR would."

Hence the reason why I edited it. What motor is in that thing anyway ?

I clearly see two issues, edited or not.

That was an issue of visual appeal which I replied to.

The edited addition refers to function which was out of the scope of my comment which preceeded your edition. Why is it that you just love to start shit? Is it a character flaw?

Whose starting shit ? The original post/suggestion said nothing about motors that were highly modified that REQUIRE additional heat dissipation/cooling.
You posted just that.
I edited my post to rebut your photo and you whine. Take you fucking skirt off man.
Or, am I not allowed to edit my own thoughts ?

Wow, thats a pretty cool looking ride.

Well thanks Agro for the other point of veiw, but I really think that I like the low-pro hood style.

Maybe I sould just DO IT and see how it come out, and I should not worry about what other people think
