OK, so I got the annoying ABS light a while back. After a little research here I used the paperclip in the OBD connector method and got a 2-13 code, which indicates a Left Rear ABS sensor gap problem.
Crawled under the truck this afternoon and followed the lone wire to what appears to be the ABS sensor in the back of the hub, but can't easily get a screwdriver or anything else in there to pry it out as per a thread I read relating to this. The shock is blocking easy access.
Can anyone who is familiar with the procedure let me know if anything needs to be removed in order to pull the sensor ? If I understand the little I've been able to read on this, the ABS sensor comes out from the backside of the wheel and doesn't require removing the wheel itself (?)
Assuming I manage to get the sensor out, is it just a question of tapping it back in lightly with a mallet ? How do you know when it has bottomed out and is seated correctly ?
On a related note, I can't seem to clear my ABS code by disconnecting the paperclip shorting pins 5 & 15 of the OBD connector. According to the instructions, disconnecting the short between the 2 pins while the key is in position 2 (furthest detent before engaging the starter) should have cleared the code the next time the key is turned to position 2. I keep getting the same 2-13 code when I short the pins to see if there are additional codes stored in the buffer... is this because I haven't reseated the sensor ?
Thanks muchly for any help
