how to reset adaptive values

When I did a transmission service it said in the manual to reset the adaptive valves. When I talked to the guy at the local rover shop he said that aside from using their expensive ass computers that you could drive the car for a a mile or two while staying around 30 mph and that would do it..
I'm sure this is just another wives tale, but I never "reset" the adaptive valves after my transmission service and I have been fine since. Then again it seems like you have alot of other things that could be causing these problems with your truck

The adaptive values are constantly being adjusted. Driving various drive cycles will make adjustments to the adaptive values, but resetting them to zero is (to the best of my knowledge) only able to be done via the OBD-II port.

Resetting to factory presets allows you to bypass any bad habit the engine has learned due to wear, local environmental factors, fuel and driving habits.

Different size motor?

I was under the impression that you need testbook, autologic, or rovacom to do it.

that is correct. I looked into it you have to do it this way, no shortcut that I could find.

so can this be done without the ecu in the disco? or are these rovalogicbooks obdII ? none of these shops here have those. Is this a common solution to high idle issues? Would it be easier to look for an used ecu? do you need rovalogicbook for an ecu swap? someone told me that a jerry-jug of fuel and a match would fix my woes. Anyhow, thanks for the info.... this site has been my best diagnostic tool yet, and it doesn't cost five grand.

Im wondering if this would work.... Disconnect a sensor (like an O2, tps, etc) to purposely trip a CE light. Then plug the sensor back in and reset the CE light using a scantool. Ive done this on non-rovers and it would reset the long term fuel trims back to zero. But I never tried this on a GEMS rover.

I don't think that will do it as there are separate steps to reset adaptive values from clearing codes. For quite some time, there was no means to reset adaptive values for Motronics engines using the Rovacom-Lite. Clearing DTCs would not reset values. Eventually, the function was added and they can now be reset for Motronics engines.

today I checked the fuel pressure, it was at 28psi. Replaced fuel filter and still was reading at 28. I have a old coil pack, question is can I switch any old coil to the one I want to replace with problems? also changed the oil for the first time as well, its really great having it next to the exhaust!

well folks, the culprit was a injector that was intermediately crappin out, causing the high idle and miss. I leave my goodbye words in another post after I vent ( hopefully someone else will learn from my mistakes) One piece of advice about owning a Rover like mine: have lots and lots and lots and lots of money, im not talking about a savings, or a filled piggy bank, im talking large revolving cash flow. The price I paid for all my trouble while have my Rover i could be making payments on a new rover. Don't hide behind your pride, everyone here knows what I am talking about.

Thanks everyone for your help and info!

You can also do it with a Vag-Comm from Ross-Tech. It's VW software and cable that plugs into the OBD2 port. Under the OBD2 section, it allows monitoring the O2 sensors, maf air flow, all that stuff. Also allows you to reset the ECU. I did it on my Mercedes after I replaced the O2 Sensor.

After you reset, it will not pass a smog test until it completes an OBD drive cycle. It took me a few days driving to work and back to clear the "not ready" on the OBD2.

your just using the Global ODB function of the scanner to reset the readiness monitors. Vag is A VW/Audi only tool/software
