See photo...I assume this will need to be welded. Rover mechanic or muffler shop? Any chances of a DIY fix until I can make it in (non-welding)? This is on the 2000 DII.

not a big deal. any muffler shop should be able to correct that. You might end up replacing the center muffler.

Muffler shop can repair it.
If you have time and creative resources you can take it apart; sand the hell out of it and re-attach with a clamp as a temporary solution if your on a budget.

I did this to my 911 years ago as a temporary fix and it stayed in place for a few years with no vacuum issues. Haters will hate but when on a budget and living nearly off grid you think of solutions for fixing your stuff.

By this I assume you mean cutting both ends down with a dremel so they are smooth and then getting an exhaust clamp to put them together? Sounds doable especially with the light rust...

Yes exactly. If you can get it off the truck it will be so much easier to fix. A clamp like this is what you would need. Since your going to need to buy such a clamp than might as well put of some of the exhaust tap too.
Smooth both sides that are to be fitted together. Connect with the exhaust tap. Put clamp on and call it a day till you can fix it another way, or not. Again haters might hate but this will get you back on the road.

Above all stay calm, take your time, and it will be okay. :)

INSPECT that rear driveshaft as well!
Maybe that is the Balance weight that I see, but it looks like it's almost rusted through near the Flex.

Maybe that is the Balance weight that I see, but it looks like it's almost rusted through near the Flex.
That's definitely going to be the longer-term fix. I think you're seeing the weight, but I will get back under there and take a look.

Totally get the nearly off grid approach. For some things, like exhaust, I would have at least 3 hours into taking it to a muffler shop and that is if the first place I take it to can get right to it. They all pretty much say, bring it by and we’ll take a look. I can’t even get ballpark prices over the phone here. Then, they look at it and tell me to come back for an appointment, adding another at least 3 hours. It doesn’t take anywhere near 6 hours to replace an exhaust with one that shows up at my front door and it saves a few bucks, although not a huge amount compared to a custom exhaust shop.

So, I just order the parts and do it myself. If the muffler shop was 10 minutes away I wouldn’t be doing it myself. Rural living has its positives and inconveniences.

FWIW, that lucky 8 Britpart kit is pretty easy to install. Although, I did have to bend it just a bit.

That's for a D1, OP has a D2.

I noticed that too late.. The D2 kit was like 435$. so.. take that into consideration
