By this I assume you mean cutting both ends down with a dremel so they are smooth and then getting an exhaust clamp to put them together? Sounds doable especially with the light rust...If you have time and creative resources you can take it apart; sand the hell out of it and re-attach with a clamp as a temporary solution if your on a budget.

Maybe that is the Balance weight that I see, but it looks like it's almost rusted through near the Flex.

Smooth both sides that are to be fitted together. Connect with the exhaust tap. Put clamp on and call it a day till you can fix it another way, or not. Again haters might hate but this will get you back on the road.
Above all stay calm, take your time, and it will be okay.
Totally get the nearly off grid approach. For some things, like exhaust, I would have at least 3 hours into taking it to a muffler shop and that is if the first place I take it to can get right to it. They all pretty much say, bring it by and we’ll take a look. I can’t even get ballpark prices over the phone here. Then, they look at it and tell me to come back for an appointment, adding another at least 3 hours. It doesn’t take anywhere near 6 hours to replace an exhaust with one that shows up at my front door and it saves a few bucks, although not a huge amount compared to a custom exhaust shop.Muffler shop can repair it.

I did this to my 911 years ago as a temporary fix and it stayed in place for a few years with no vacuum issues. Haters will hate but when on a budget and living nearly off grid you think of solutions for fixing your stuff.
