I would dig a big hole below a spring somewhere close and put a cistern in there, then gravity feed water down to the cabin. Our neighbors have been doing that for 30 years. I would also consider solar, maybe a small 300-600W system with 6/12 batteries, probably more than you'd need really. Also, consider propane lights and appliances (frig). One added benefit of propane lights is they give off heat in the winter time.

We actually live in a "modernized" hunt cabin (1100 sq ft) that was originally constructed (notice I didn't say "built") in 1977 (according to county records) and then modernized (water/electric/phone) in 1997. Only thing I can say is "never say never". Make a good foundation (piers if applicable) and have it built right if you aren't building it yourself. You never know who might want to live in it one day.

We heat exclusively with wood and have a smaller Jotul, rated for ~1800 sq ft. Runs us out of there if I crank it up. Good rule of thumb is that you don't want to have to run the stove at 100% to do the job. Don't skimp on the stove.

Man this would be the best thing to do, but the closest natural spring is on the other side of the farm and the cabin is going to sit atop a hill.

I will post pictures as ole guy gets started here in the next week or so. From what I understand he is going to dig a 12" trench and then pour a 10-16" footer, then use blocks to level.

I'm really looking forward to this!

Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Look at a Pacific Energy stove. Good price and can cook on top. Dam thing is a work horse. Be VERY cautious of a used stove. They usally need ALOT of work in areas you can readily see (cement, gaskets, warped/cracked baffels). Our store is "Woodstoves Unlimited". Check out our website and if I can help...drop a line.

My partners brother has a store by Portland, Tenn. if it helps.

Actually, yeah, whats the name of it? Portland is about 15-20 minutes from here. Really looking for something with a burner on top to cook on.

If you're thinking of putting in a "real fireplace" at any point, have your footing guy put the footings in for it, that'll save you a step and is alot easier to do now than later.

Its the end of the first week. I have some pictures of the progress if anyone is interested.

This is the site before anything was started, we just spent the time bush hogging and cutting some trees

decided not to pour a footer all the way around

Here it is with the floor joists. Using 2-5/8x8" yellow poplar. And the first few base logs. He sunk 4 6x6's in concrete to help tie it into the ground, and the porch poles will be done the same way.

I think at the rate he is going and considering the doesn't have to wait for the logs to season it should be under roof by the end of the week.

I will post more pictures as they make progress.

Steve...re read back and saw you were looking at 35 acres. If you aren't planning on hunting it or having cattle I would say go for it. If you are, I would get more than 35 acres unless you can hunt on land surrounding. This place is only 100 acres, but I have rights to hunt on neighboring farms and plenty of others in the area, just a suggestion!

I know what you mean Bob, here is a shot of my friends...they hunt there like twice a year.

I also got to hunt at rocky branch when I was at AU (Jeff Foxworthys place). A kid from ATL had the farm that adjoined.

The guy whose family owns that has a place out west that sits on the border of yellowstone. The lodge in the picture is huge... each wing off of the main has three bedrooms with two queen size beds each. Theres like a 30 ft dining room table, walk in freezer/ fridge and 5,000 acres of greatness, two more guest house, a master house, master stables, regular stables, kennels, stadium lit skeet range and the list goes on... its awesome.

Been getting held up with rain. I was trying to get some food plots going and I don't know if weather is going to cooperate or not.
