Yeah, then the mill burned to the ground...

Why would fleece need a shell unless its raining or stupid windy? It's just fine without a shell if the weather supports that kind of use.

Look for the Polartec tag and a YKK zipper. You'll be fine.

Ill probably go for a pullover half zip or button...I've had a bunch of fleece jackets and they always seem to bulge at the bottom when Im sitting.

I dont think its the jacket that is causing the bulge when you sit......

Mtn Hardware and North Face both make good fleece.

Fleece is fleece; it's all made in China by the same children.

I must disagree here. Put on your 12 dollar Remington then try a NF Windstopper, Mtn. Hardware or Spyder and tell me once again they are the same. Even if you think they are the same a majority of the high ends are shells that you can convert into larger sky jackets, not so with the cheap stuff.

Just buy another Synchilla. I got one a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure it's the best fleece I own. My NF Windwall is definitely pretty windproof but it's not warm at all. Too thin.

Or, yeah, if you're a high roller pick up the R4 like a couple people have said. I'd love one, but I also like to eat.

if you read about how malden mills guy didn't patent his invention it is a painful marketing lesson.

Along a similar line--this book about the corporate starting/history of Jansport is pretty good. I picked up a signed copy at the local bookfair and was pleasantly surprised!

I don't know about their fleeces, but I just bought a 66 North coat and I love it. It is very good quality and very warm. My friends in Iceland have the fleeces, and all of them have the coats. FYI it is significantly cheaper to call the store in Iceland and have it shipped here, rather than ordering from an American retailer. I think I saved $180 by ordering it from Iceland.

I've got about 7 that are mostly different brands, just get what fits you well and what you like.

I tried to get a filson duck hunting sweater for christmas but they are on a 6 month backorder, Dad has one and he has quit letting me use it. They are awesome.

I got a Marmot half zip that's polartec. I got it in Yosemite when I needed a better loft layer. Turned out to be an awesome purchase. I've always been a fan of Patagucci also...

Fuck Patagonia north face Hardwear marmot for selling their sweatshop goods.

You know, I don't have a problem buying something expensive, but I'm just not going to walk into a store and pay 200 dollars for a fleece jacket that was made in fucking Taiwan for 5 bucks by a kid I wouldn't hire to wash my car.

Columbia is priced properly. I don't have a problem with their clothing. They work some pretty cool magic with cotton, as well.

Mountain Hardware has something I like, but it costs far too much for where it was made. I walked in and looked at the stuff after the other thread. No dice. It's outrageous.

Barbour? I'll pay for it. Filson? Yup. My leather jackets are entirely hand-made to my specifications. I even picked the hide. So, I'm no cheap-skate, but I'm no stooge either.

Here is a little rule for you: If I can't fuck the girl that made it without being thrown in jail after the fact, I'm not too happy about buying the product. That doesn't mean I won't buy it, as, sometimes it's all that's on the market in the category; I just won't be happy about it.

Cheers,

Kennith

X2. Wear mine 5 times a week. Maybe I need to cut back.

x3

I wear mine all the time. I love the zipper pits

with a t-shirt it is ok, but the warms drastically increases with a poly pro top.

It also will keep me dry for a decent amount of time in the rain for what it is.

Also, REI seems to constantly have them on sale these days

I picked up a Hawke and Co (made in China) fleece at Costco a few weeks ago, because all of mine were finally starting to fall apart. It's got some spandexy bits and an inner mesh lining; it's very comfortable, just the right amount of warm, breathes well enough, and overall does the trick. Also looks pretty nice, IMHO.

Not as good as a Mountain Hardwear, or Patagonia, or Marmot, but way better than most of the cheapo fleeces I've seen. FWIW.

Regarding Norf Face, I don't wear it, because I don't like looking like I belong here in DC. (EVERYONE here sports it)
