What, is the guy a millionaire or something?

Jeez! And I just watched the Dukes of Hazzard (they show at the end what really happens to the GL when it lands from 50 feet - not a pretty sight! (Unlike Jessica, btw:)))

I know some local kid who jumped his stock FJ100 Cruiser about 4' vertical 25' distance about 5 times and it still runs just fine

Daniel,

Situation Report?

Have you have gotten your truck out of low gear??

If you don't mind crossing the state, I am willing to help you get your truck dried out, cleaned up, and help troubleshoot (and fix?) any lingering problems. I don't have much going on this week. We might even be able to get some assistance from Gordo since (I think) he comes up to Pinellas County for work? I know he has quite a bit of experience fixing sunk trucks.

Jamie :)

This sucks... my patience.

Sorry jamie, and guys. The prognosis hasn't changed. Seat heaters gone, but the motors work. Intermittently on start ups, the horn wants to blow continuously sometimes; so I removed the fuse. Engine runs fine but blows five feet of water out above 5200 rpm, so cat and muffler materials must be waterlogged. But it runs fine. Brake lights work fine, so no solenoid problem there. Low gear is still stuck , so no crssing state at 25 mph/ 3500 rpm. But thanks for the offer. And key still only turns back to position 1 instead of 0. Still think key problem is linked to locked up transfer box, but not sure. At least major electronics, engine, diffs, and tranny are fine. Thanks again gang. All research and ideas appreciated.

Daniel,

Thanks for the sitrep.

The idea of a locked up transfer box sounds promising?

You might want to try www.floridalandroverclub.com. Post a thread. You also might want to look around the website for phone numbers of the guys who trail ride together. I'm sure there isn't a problem out there that they haven't run into. Those boys play rough (way too rough for me :). They have sunk their trucks so much that they have renamed themselves the Florida Rover Yacht Club (if I remember correctly).

Bruce and Gordo both read DiscoWeb, so maybe they'll see this thread and offer some input. David Z also reads DiscoWeb, but like me, he tries to avoid submerging his truck on a regular basis. Even so, he might have some valuable input because I think he may have been at a few of the "yacht club" rides?

Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can help - the offer remains open if you want to come this way after you get the mechanics straightened out for some clean up and dry out help. As I've said, I'm pretty good at that stuff. Even though I go to mucky places sometimes, I still like to have a squeaky clean new looking truck when I'm at home :)

I will email you my cell phone number. When I'm occupied with other stuff, I don't check my email or my home voice mail - but my cell phone makes an extremely annoying alert tone until I retreive my cellular messages.

Hope things get better soon. I empathize with your current status.

Jamie :)

Daniel(forgive me if I've met you and don't remember)Bring the D2 on over to Tampa. I've swamped mine once or twice.......I'll fix your d2, you get my proline ready for some tarpon...deal? Gordo and the rest are just around the corner. Come spend the day or weekend...up to you. At the very least I've got the tubing and hardware to improve upon you breathers.

You're missing out:

I had that problem

Daniel

I once had that issue where the key is stuck in the ignition. For a different reason than yours (upgrading Tcase).

A back of the envelope solution is to pull the fuse concerned....I could not tell you which, I tried them all until I found the right one, then bingo the key is released. Reverse the above to drive again.

On the transfer case being stuck in low gear.....there is a solenoid that locks it in place until it senses that the gear shift lever is in neutral.

There is a fuse that manages this solenoid. If it is blown, then fixing it will free up the Tcase. In a RR it is located under a seat, more than likely the passenger seat. I think it was tough to find, under a black plastic cover with several fuses.

Eventually, I bypassed the sensor and killed the solenoid system...

By the numbers...

Well gang, here is the latest update. Oil changed with Castrol GTX. Trans flushed and upgraded to synthetic. Both diffs drained and upgraded to synthetic. Disintegrated paper filter element replaced with k and n filter. One snorkel kit, one class III recovery shackle, and two breather kits on order.

Brought the truck to my european specialist and Disco Rover was the winner. TCU, transmission control unit is fried. Stuck in low, but you guys were right that it can be jumped and bypassed. Once that is done, he thinks 50/50 that key will go back to 0 and come out. If it doesn't , he's gonna start checking relays and fuses. And it's killing me because before I went in the marine business, I used to be a mechanic, but sold all of my vehicle related diagnostic tools. Brake lights are fine and BCU and SRS are all fine.

TCU is gonna cost 1200.00, his cost. So I will be posting in parts wanted, and trying to get in touch with tidewater and a couple of others. Thanks again. Hoping this will work out.

You guys are the best, can't wait to head out in a group... with a snorkel... and a winch... and a callawy 4.6 with headers.........oh wait, let's get it running normal first, huh.

Daniel is this the same TCU that is found under the driver's seat? If it is, you should be able to get one for about $120 shipped overnight. This happened to me back in March; after troubleshooting over the phone with Trevor,we finally decided on the TCU which I replaced and it ran fine. I will see if I can locate the place where I got mine.

Trailpimp; That's great Dan. A phone number and address would be great. 10 percent of dealer's appraisal would be wonderful. Makes it worth mudding again. As long as it's in a group. Thanks, man. Appreciate it.

"Who says Disco's died out in the 70's ?"

When I started reading DiscoWeb, I thought it was made by a group of older people that were into disco dancing.

It was quite awhile before I realized that disco = discovery. Duh!! :)

Jamie; is that why you joined ? I've gotten my disco to some pretty extreme angles, but nothing to compare to a Travolta movie. And besides my sinking, she's been built like a Brick House. LOL.

Thats funny as hell, we were at Dave and Busters (my daughter and I) and in leaving, we can spot the Disco across the parking lot. She had just won a 14" disco ball (with 50 gazillion tickets), and she suggested we mount it in a retractable compartment, so we can park and have a disco party!!.....Damn....that got me thinking...and the above got me laughing about it.

Forget about using synthetic fluids if you're going to be wheeling in FL......the swamp will find its way into the housings one way or another....count on it. Use the cheap stuff and change it out often. BUT, if its a daily driver and you're rarely going off road, that's another story.
