Peter - x3!

Dan, have you ever even BEEN to California? Sure, Bakersfield, Barstow, Modesdo, and Sacramento all suck ass, but the rest of the state is incredible. The Sierra Nevada, the Coast Range, cliffs, surf, clean water, clean air, pristine desert, rainforests, a myriad of offroad trails, good fishing (native trout EVERYWHERE), good hunting, groundbreaking tech industry, flourishing entertainment industry, good schools, medical marijuana (and hopefully soon legal recreational marijuana)... Sure, it's got problems, just like anywhere... CA overspends on some things, has way too many people in jail, and cannot seem to tax appropriately - 9.something Sales Tax is ridiculous, and our political process has been hamstrung by political bickering. Doesn't mean it's a DISASTER.

Oh and as for the Biggie Smalls song, I was using it ironically. ....I think. Anyways, most everybody has heard that one, and the LL Cool J one kinda sucks.

A quote from "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" seems appropriate here:

People are only fanatical about those things which are in doubt. Nobody is clamoring that the sun is going to rise tomorrow.

CA...don't knock it until you've been there.

Napa Valley wine gives me the shits. I boycott that wine years ago. If the wine turns me off, I know the rest of the shit from that shithole will, too. So no, I have not been there and never plan to.

Hell, the retards running the shit hole cannot even balance their budget.

The best thing that can happen is all the illegals flee AZ into California and the shit hole breaks off the continent. Lots of America's problems will go with it.

California would be great, if we could get rid of all the people!

And LL has it all over the later (c)rap 'singers'. Classic video with the right touch of provocatively dressed women and classy lyrics.

Gentlemen, please... We may not all agree on this whole east coast/west coast thing, but one thing we can all agree on is this.

x10, esp. Miami. Pain in the culo to drive in and Ingles is nowhere to be spoken in some places. Rained all morning here today.

Napa wine is overrated, IMHO - try a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, and then try and deny its awesomeness. Sonoma wine is where its at, IMHO. The beer in CA is awesome too.

As has been said before Dan, don't knock it till you've been there.

....and the reason they can't balance a budget is a big issue, with many convoluted aspects, but one fact is simple and painfully obvious - Schwarzenegger (a Republican) hasn't done SHIT to help it, in fact, much the opposite.

Kris, you really have no idea what Arnold's done while in the office.
California political problems stem from the fact that the weather's so nice here that lowlifes from all over the world come here and feel entitled to good life. The same lowlifes elect the free-for-all politicians to govern them, until they run out of money.
Hopefully, we're close to this point - because some of the lowlifes are already fleeing the state, according to what Mark P posts, and contrary to what Dan thinks.

It's like Ford went nearly bankrupt but straightened out somewhat, or San Diego somewhat fixed its pension crisis, before the SHTF, and came out if not smelling like roses but not like complete turd.
I have hope for California.

I have lived there and it is overrun with glue-sniffing hippies.

Take them away and ditch the earthquakes, mudslides, floods, droughts and high taxes and you might have something.

I will visit but I will never live there again.

Yes, California is a fucked up state, but liked many fucked up places it isn't black and white. Politics are fucked up there and there are a lot of whackos, but California is a wonderful state as well.

If you are turned off by Napa wines, then there is something wrong with you, not Napa. You do realize that in 1976 there was a little blind taste test in France where a few Napa wines were brought there essentially to be made fun of and beat the best of the French wines? Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley produce some of the best wines in the world, bar none. Not to get into a west coast vs. east coast wines fight, but east coast wines suck balls. New York wines? Please. Virginia wines? Good Lord.

That's good stuff for sure.
I've enjoyed my three months near Bridgewater, smack between a pig farm and a turkey farm. Any little air movement brought in some enjoyment...

Mike - there are also Central Coast wines.

Peter, I've had plenty of decent central coast wines. None of them were anything that I'd consider to be world class, but still pretty damn good.

Dan, I'll do a swap with you. I'll send you something from WA.

Have any Virginia wines won any notable/national or international awards? Just curious.

Virginia beers suck beyond comprehension. Not to mention they have VERY few breweries to begin with. Hell Delaware has better beer and that's sad.

I could care less who is running the state (CA); it's the most diverse when it comes to landscapes and climate. Where else can you be in the desert and in the snowy mountains just hours apart. I dig it.
