November 22 will be another big date for me. Clean and Serene (well, maybe cleaner and serener) for eight years November 22. That took me three tries but the third time's the charm I guess. Not completely C & S but no more of the bad stuff!

Congrats!

For me October 15th is 17 years. Took me three times too.

Quitter!
Just kidding! Good luck, you're headed down a long road, but it's well worth it. Be strong!
Now if I could only give up cigars.....

Im 22...Im been dipping copenhagen snuff for almost 4 years now. My cousin quit when he got back from Iraq. Im looking for a good reason but, I havent found one yet.

Lip and/or gum cancer seem like good reasons. You'll have a whole different outlook on health when you are 52 compared to 22. Do yourself a favor now. Talk to your dentist about the risks...

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words of support. I'm at 4 1/2 days, so far, so good.
As far as getting sick from quitting goes, I think I know what you mean. I used to smoke Camel Filters. About two years ago I started to roll my own (as an incentive to quit). When I made the switch, it felt like I was withdrawing from heroin-I was sick for a week.

Update:
OK, it's been 14 days and a couple minutes since my last smoke. I'm doing very well other than some early morning insomnia. I go tp bed around 10:30 then wake up around 2am, then can't sleep again until about 4am. That makes for a tired Rick during the work day. As far as the craving to smoke, I go several days without even thinking about it, then I'll get a suden urge to smoke that lasts for half a minute or so.
Overall, I'm very glad I quit. And I feel good. Just wish I could sleep throughout the night. A friend suggested drinking until the point of drowsiness. I'm working on that right now. Will keep everyone posted on how that works.
Go Chargers.

.

trust me put a card in your pocket that lists the reason why you want to quit...when you get the urge pull the card out and read the reasons over and over for a few min...it is all about retraining your brain.

Thanks MUSKYMAN, sounds like the voice of experiance. I haven't made out a card, yet. But I think about the things I don't want to have happen anymore or in the future. It helps. So does David sunflower seeds, tooth picks, and hopefully, tonight for the insomnia, Quadro vodka.

I stopped smoking about 12 years ago. If you want a smoke, just remember how bad it is for you. You will never succeed unless you really want to. It seems like you do, so be strong.

Best of luck

Left: bus
Right: smoking

Both: dead

Anyhoo...

Good luck in your efforts to improve your life. Dad quit after he had bypass surgery. A guy next to him had surgery too, and the other guy starts coughing. His chest cracks open and the guy dies.

That was 20 years ago. Dad, now 67, still isn't smoking.

I had a 6-ft tall uncle die of emphysema and he weighed about 70 pounds. With a tracheotomy. That was a terrible way to go. He was in his 50s. I thought that was old because I was 15 or so; now it's not that far away and seems terribly young. He rolled his own to the day he died, even as he lay in bed attached to the oxygen.

Again, good luck. You can do it. Just realize that you're stronger than an addiction.

Thanks for the support.
I have tried to quit several different times using several different methods, and I never made it past a day or two.
This time I saw my doctor & asked him about the Chiantix. It may seem like the wussy way to quit, but if it works, that is what matters.
If anyone is thinking about quitting, I strongly recommend seeing your doctor. I'm telling you, Chiantix makes me feel like I'm cheating-it has made quitting very easy.

I have heard it makes you just feel so sick if you light up that it just ruins the enjoyment.
