Back to the Tundra maybe... I know this is a Tacoma but maybe the topper company crosses over. And I know, RTT, but still this setup looks pretty slick. That coming from a guy that's never overlanded in his life. And I'm sure if it isn't I'm about to be told why. LOL

Seems like a great option to me. I prefer the round (not angry eye) headlight variant (take note Land Rover). Even the base model comes with a center and rear locker. Great stuff. Hybrid is how things are going but it’s a Toyota so will likely be more reliable than any recent power train offering from JLR. I think the new LC will further shift the Grenadier to the Kardashian market. Look forward to spec-ing one out and will seriously consider ordering one. The ability to dealer service in a smaller market like mine is a huge plus.

Base model gets heated cloth seats, heated leather wheel, rear locker.

Im in. Couple years down the road when the LR4 is setting sail I’ll be in one of these.

With a mild-hybrid-turbo-4cl across the line-up.

I would take a Toyota Turbo Hybrid over a BMW Turbo any day.

It seems that the only way to hit power numbers in the USA market to be competitive is to do a Turbo and/or Turbo Hybrid. I would personaly love to see it in a diesel but I know how hard that is to make a successful diesel in the USA market, especially with a "one powerplant" approach. They did say they are doing diesel versions outside the USA, but I suppose that is where they don't have the same emissions restrictions.

It is down on towing capacity from the Grenadier and we still have to hear about payload. Its also has IFS, but I think matter a lot less than it used to in today's age of lockers and traction control being factory options.

We'll see how Ineos's sales go....maybe they will not hit numbers they want and backtrack a bit and offer a more stripped version to compete instead of pushing upmarket.

Dealer came back asking $75k + tax. Nope.
I suspect that car was repo'd and the dealer got it for a steal and didn't pay a nickel in premium for all the upgrades on it. That is probably sitting on the previous owner's credit card.

That being said, 75k is not too bad if you wanted a platinum AND a 6" lift. 65k for other certified used in the country gets you a regular platinum with low miles and certified.. Its definately not a smoking deal, though. At 65k it would be.

I would take the B58 over a new 4cyl-electric-motor-hybrid any day.

The new LC is as modern and feature-rich as they come. I see it at the typical go-to, all-rounder when you wife says no to the Grenadier and not necessarily a direct competitor. The LC really is a totally different vehicle.

I think it is definately a competitor if you don't care about losing the towing capacity. Payload is still TBD, so maybe that will be a problem for some people.

If you don't need that, how are they not competing? Have you any knowledge of the Prius reliability? They have a fantastic track record. I don't have all the details, but it is likley based on tried and true proven stuff coming from that direction versus the newer stuff on Tundra/Sequoia since it comes with a nickel-metal hyrdide battery instead of a newer lithium based approach.

Now, what is best for you versus somebody else is definately your call. If it doesn't compete in your mind for your use case, great. But you can't say it is not a competitor when it certainly is. Next to the Defender, I might go as far as to say it is the closest competitor as it comes closest to the towing capacity. If payload is similar, it is really, really close as I am not sure how many overlanders tow trailers, especially trailers over 6000 pounds.

Stock for stock, it is not as good when it come to angles and clearance, but that is with some small tires. Looks like there is room for a 33+ tire in there, especially if you go narrow vs wide. We'll see when it comes out.

Damn, they managed to make that base model “1958” ugly as fuck. Like seeing the Lexus GX550 the next morning in bed next to you, no makeup, sober & hungover. Acres of cheap black plastic that weathers about as well as cheap black plastic.

At least the the upper model looks better - see pic.

Surprising amount of power out of that little 2.4L mule. Wonder how it delivers the power?

No flat floor, did you notice the add-on, afterthought raised deck in the rear to house the battery? See pic.

Looks pretty much like a cheaped-down Lexus, which is exactly as expected. Not really too bad for $55k. But all those cost cut items would really sting after forking over $55+k.

That smurf blue spec is the one all the TRD Pro bros will go after. Think it looks cartoonish. I like the base model and appreciate a stripped down version - the lack of which everyone bitched about on the Grenadier. The front fascia appears to be easily removed for fitting of an aftermarket bumper. All the wheel options look bad IMO but easy fix. The loss of cargo area sucks. Seats fold relatively flat.

When I look at the base model, I don't see it they same way you do. I see it as a vehicle ripe for aftermarket bumpers and accessories with shitty bumpers put on for that reason. I wish it was a 35k for the base model vehicle, but those days are long dead and gone for most anything anymore.

The power is added via the Hybrid - I think it said it ads 46HP, not sure how much torque. It definately adds all around but I think most importantly it makes up for power until the turbo can kick in.

Looks like it at least comes close to a flat fold. I think not an afterthought but a well-thought out approach. You get some neat storage cubbies as well as getting close to folding flat. Looks sleepable to me for those into that sort of thing...

Same! I’m loving the ethos of the base spec. Cloth heated seats, leather steering wheel, rear locker. Just add some wheels and tires and you’re done.

Ah, I was looking at the seats tumbled forward as in the video. Just folded down that is nearly flat.

Ok, I’ll stop complaining. True that the front bumper and all that black plastic will be the first thing yanked off most base models.

I watched this video too. Pretty cool, especially his one-piece roof top tent bed base that just folds up so he can work in his truck bed standing up.
