96 discovery sat for several days. last night went to take the kids to soccer practice and the truck would crank and crank but not start. so checked pressure at the rail and no fuel came out. so, checked the fuel pump fuse in the engine bay. still good. changed it out anyway. still no start. just for because i could i pressed the reset on the inertia switch. it clicked and the truck fired right up. used it for work today as well and it started perfectly every time.

has anyone else had this happen? can a bad switch trip itself?

besides the inertia switch is there anything else i should be looking for?

thanks,

little update: today took the girls to their soccer game. parked the rover and when i turned it off there was a clicking sound coming from the glove box area. turned the rover back on and then back off again and the clicking was gone.

i'm fairly certain this is connected to the inertia switch somehow.

what the hell is going on?

There should be a fuel pump relay down under the glove box, at least on my 97 there is. Not sure on the inertia switch, but when a fuel pump starts to go bad it will work intermittenly sometimes. Could be the cause of your issue.

other than the no start the other day the truck is running great. in fact, i averaged 13mpg city last tank. accelerates and cruises perfectly, well as perfectly as a rover can.

i'm just wondering if there is a sensor for the inertia switch that is going bad.

Last year I was driving on a dirt road, didn't see a pothole, hit it going faster than I would have liked. That jolt was enough to trigger my inertia switch. I shut off the motor, restarted a little while later, everything has been fine since.
