Anyone read Under the Banner of Heaven? I'm just under half way through it. Pretty interesting book so far... Got polygamy??

I read that, pretty nuts. You have to take the whole assault on Mormonry as a whole with a grain of salt but those off shoot sects are pretty out there.

Yeah, good book. Krakauer(sp?) didn't intend this book to be anti-anything. There's just some "questionable" events in the Mormon History that found there way into the book.

That's one of my favorites. I'm neither anti- nor pro-Mormon but I'm pretty sure we can all agree that Mormon history contains many questionable events.

Theres an estimated 30,000 polygamists living in Utah, deeply ingrained in the culture, they have been here since the begining.

They have a vast finacial empire numbered in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Yet many of thier familys live in poverty, many are using the welfare system for all its worth, "bleeding the beast " as they call it.

The Morman church has tolerated this to a large degree, and will continue to do so.

Just down the street from me is an ace hardware and strip mall that they own ( the Kingstons), going in to that ace store is like entering the twilight zone.

Mormons are like Canadians. Really nice in a creepy sort of way.

I've got new neighbors who are mormon...the above describes them perfectly. Really nice; there's just this weird vibe....

Edit: I like my Canadian friends/neighbors...they like beer - a lot. :victory:

Holy hell, what is wrong with people? Isn't having ONE wife enough self inflicted punishment???

I've been thinking about proclaiming myself a prophet. It's seems to work for lots of folks.
