Well it looks like there are plenty of fm modulators out there. I guess that is the direction I'll have to go.

Doesnt look like anything will hook up to the cd player wires or any type of direct connect.

http://www.cardomain.com/item/PACAUXPOD, I cant find the wiring harness for a land rover.

FM Modulators suck...bad

I tried several models of FM modulators. Realize that even if they are PERFECT they can at best send 22Khz signals.. You are losing HALF the sound quality of your MP3s (assuming they are ripped at a decent speed).

Compare the sound of the best stereo station you receive to the sound of a CD... There's no comparison. If you ever listen to music at higher levels, all you will hear with an FM transmitter is the bass and treble distorting like hell... Dont do it!

Do you not have a tape player in the head unit?

If all you have is a CD player head unit, you are screwed unless you find out the line in pin-outs on the back of the head unit..and wiring the iPod to that gets technical, but it IS possible.

Pioneer, not Alpine

Thanx so much for all the suggestions, but so far, any aux adapter I find works only with the Alpine sytems, not Pioneer (which I is what I think I have).

I'd prefer not to go the fm transmitter or cassette adapter route, as I really see no point in listening to music that degraded.

I'll keep looking for a solution, but I'm guessing I'll have to start splicing and crimping wires myself to get what I need.

A personal question for me -- If I have the 6-disc changer, is there anyway that I can disconnect that and hook in the ipod? I havent checked the connections for it, but is there any sort of adapter? I'd rather have the ipod directly connected than a 6-disc changer

I use the cassette adaptor in my 98 disco to play my ipod on the car speakers. It has worked perfect since december. Like victor said, MAKE SURE THE SOUND ON THE IPOD IS NOT ABOVE 3/4 OF THE TOTAL VOLUME or else the sound is horrible (Only took me about 5 months to realize this  )

exactly what i am trying to figure out as well.

I'll read this link and see what it says.

Todd Pfortmill deserves a big kiss! I think his instructions are just what I needed to figure out. Thank you, Marc!

Let us know how this works out, I am quite a novice so I am wondering how difficult this will be.

Does anyone know where you can order one of those DPDT rocker switches from? I looked at a few electronics parts websites, and could only find DPDT toggle switches, which don't look nearly as good.

Hmm, well their website does show it, so I may stop in there tomorrow. I have kind been forgetting about R-Shack lately because it seems everytime I go in there lately looking for something other than a cell phone, they tell me...."sorry we don't carry those anymore".

Take a look at this one. It's got a red rocker, but it should be just what you need. (Part # 275-695 ).

Good luck!

The Itrip really is the ticket... I live in L.A. and run it all the time... It took about a week of caressing it, but now I have a preset and it sounds crystal clear... There are more radiostations in L.A. than anywhere so if I can get it to work hear you can get it to work anywhere... Patience=no wires...

I really dont understand this cassette adapter fear...

Im not sure who said that the cassette adapter sounds like crap, but I don't understand.

The cassette adapter is the equivalent of a LINE IN, as in, it's the same as figuring out a way to splice the audio in lines from the iPod 1/8" line. Unless your tape head is whacked out, ANY tape adapter should sound perfect... It sounds perfect in my '03 Disco, and every other vehicle I've ever used a tape adapter in...
