Of course it was crap. You think I was expecting an Engle?

Then what do you expect?

Disclaimer: I didn't even come close to reading the Treatise on off road refrigerators that you posted up yonder.

You ever think L8 stopped dealing Ironman because it was crap?

I think that is the point Dan is trying to make. In his view they shouldn't be selling the crap product in the first place. In comparison with EE, I would say most of their products are very high quality, so it probably doesn't matter what you buy there. If you are buying something from L8, for example, you need to do the research yourself to see if it is a quality product. Terra Firma is a great example. I own a few things from Terra Firma that I purchased from L8. I am happy with them for what I paid, but I wouldn't consider it a high quality product by any stretch.

I've always had great customer service from L8.

Hmmmm...This sucks all around.

More than anything else I'm always amazed at what companies get for certain things. $1500 portable fridges, $400 ice coolers, $99 tent lights... and yes, $60 candles if you look hard enough.

Several years ago I did store merchandising for a chain of outdoor stores. We had a store at a ski resort that had a display of cheap sunglasses - I think they were $19.95 each - the rack sat on the counter and sell through was shit. We cut the $19.95 sign off of the rack and put a $29.95 price on them. They sold like hotcakes! It's aaaaaaaaaaaall perception.

Just FYI....I needed parts for my Ironman fridge. After some research I found that Truckfridge sells the same units under a different badge and helped me when Ironman was unresponsive.

Just another example of you not taking care of your gear. Those pics show it dirty, dinged and scratched. No way all that happened during shipping.

But then again, that's how you treat your gear.

Yeah, your wrong. The fridge lives inside a commercial food trailer. It's subject to health department inspections regularly. That fridge stays cleaner than an operation room.

There were, however, two new dents in the fridge that occurred during shipping by UPS.

Looks pretty dirty to me. And the different paint (scrapped off?) in Pic #2?

This is very true, it reminds me of a funny (although not verified as true) story I once heard. Guy lived in a questionable neighborhood, and had just gotten a new fridge. The old on still worked so to be nice he put it in the front yard with a sign that said. Free working fridge. It sat in his yard and nobody took it. After a while he changed the sign to Fridge for sale $100. The next night someone stole it.

You must have some pretty nasty operating rooms in your neck of the woods. That fridge looks nasty. The old Norcold that's stored in my garage looks cleaner than what is in those pictures.

I worked in food service while I was in college, and I can say my bathroom is cleaner than most food places I've worked. They all had "A" health ratings. Health inspection standards are not all that high.

There is certainly marketing involved in about anything you buy. A pair of Oakley sunglasses probably cost the company less than $5 to make and they retail for hundreds. Are Oakley's better than some gas station specials? Probably not. I've noticed you have some high dollar sun glasses, fwiw.

Remember when Storm Cases were hot? They were just as good as Pelican at a fraction of the price. Now they're the same price as Pelican and the Storm Case store now carries hot sauce. I mean, everyone needs some hot sauce to go along with their storm case, right? This time next year you will not be able to find a new Storm Case for sale much less parts to repair one. So was it worth it?

I think the last time I saw you, JB, you were wearing a $1,000 sports coat. Is that coat better than the $99 Stafford for Penny's? Sometimes you pay more, a lot more, for an item that fits. If you need cold storage that does not pull 10-amps because you're working with limited power you may need to pay a little more for an item that fits.

I'll gladly pay for quality or special features where it counts. Like I would never buy a Poland chainsaw because I use a chainsaw a lot. I rarely use a wine glass so I'm not going to spend $200 on a wine glass. I'm not knocking the $200 wine glass as I'm sure it's a nice wine glass. I just can't appreciate a $200 wine glass like a person who drinks a lot more wine than I do.

I can't help what the fridge looks like right now as it's not in my possession. Who knows what its been through the last few days/weeks. It has been sent to the other side of the United States and who knows where it has been stored.

I take cleanliness seriously on the food truck. Probably to a fault. I know the guys who work with me complain about how I like the truck. But my food truck stays cleaner than any other food truck I've seen, inside and out. I personally would eat off the floor of my food truck.

Curious as to why you'd buy a cheap POS chinese knock-off for something as important as a fridge on a food truck, but buy a Engle for your play toy…

I bought it when Justin either called or texted me everyday. I was in the market, he had this one coming in, so I bought it.

I did not buy it for the food truck, that's just where it landed.

The only reason I wore that coat is because it's your mom's favorite! Oh snap!

A couple of thoughts:

You bought a cheapfuck fridge made by a cheapfuck company and got a cheapfuck fridge with cheapfuck problems. I feel bad for you and agree that these Ironman guys are taking the easy, shitty way out on an issue that's probably common. But, they're cheapfucks and so are you for buying this fridge, so why should it be a surprise? Chalk it up as a lesson learned the hard way, not as a slight against L8.

Regarding Lucky 8, I don't think they did anything wrong here. Perhaps if you were like a William Saunders and dropped thousands of dollars with them just to get to hang out with Justin at SCARR, perhaps they might have taken a loss on it just to keep you happy....but you talk trash about L8 all the time so why should they go out of their way to take a loss just to make Dan Chapman happy?

Regarding Terrafirma, they're not as bad as you say and it's not fair to attack L8 for carrying their stuff. First of all, TF/Allmakes is not a manufacturer, they're a white-labeler. They source parts from a wide range of manufacturers and put their brand on them. In many cases, the parts are from the very same manufacturing line that makes the Genuine Parts piece but come in a different box at half the price. In other cases, the parts are from a quality manufacturer with smaller distribution and simply rebranded and sold through Allmakes/Terrafirma. The TF axles are an example of this. They are KAM axles, simple as that. KAM makes top-notch stuff. I'm running these in my fronts now.

That's not to say that I would buy any TF part. I'm not a fan of their shocks or springs or their radius arms, which look like some Eurotrash garbage to me. But, I think it's pretty shitty to say that L8 sells crap because they sell TF parts.
