Is it normal for air conditioning condensate to drip on transmission & drivehaft?

2001 D2: Having just replaced my water pump and thermostat, I was looking under my Disco to see if there were any drips.

No coolant drips, but I did notice that the water condensate from the A/C appears to be running down the side of the transmission and dripping on the front driveshaft.

Is this normal or do I have a dislodged drain tube or similar??

Mine drips on the front drive shaft.

Yes, I'm getting some on the driveshaft as well.....think I'll edit my post to state that.

Wonderful engineering here... that's part of the reason why the front drive shafts fail.

Nah, a little water (or a lot for that matter) won't cause the driveshaft to fail. The reason they fail is because the RH cat bakes the grease in the factory non-serviceable U-joints.

You never drive in the rain?

So,.....this has turned into a contest to see how clever responders can be,........so, should I conclude that this is normal and that I DO NOT have a dislodged drain tube??

I have to say that the combination of the two is what makes them fail.

to say condensate dropped right on the joint that has been cooked out of grease wont contribute to a shorter life would just be short sighted.

I would agree with you but I've never seen the drippings make it to the joints. Mine drips right on the center of the shaft and runs down where it hits a low point and falls off before it gets to the UJs. I also live in about the driest state on the continent so condensation is minimal to say the least so my experience may not be normal.

Condensate has dripped one front driveshafts of Range Rovers and Discos since they were fitted with A/C. The single u-jointed driveshafts tolerate horrible wear much moreso than the double cardon.

In some parts of the country, it rains almost everyday but we don't see any higher an incidence of driveshaft failures than in dryer parts of the country, nor do we see a lower incidence in parts of the country where the climate requires less use of the A/C. We don't see a difference in incidence of driveshaft failures in vehicles with non-functiong A/C (like my DII).

I think it's pretty silly to think that exposure to water will accelerate universal joint failures.

something important is bound to draw colin's attention away from this matter shortly. If this is the only problem now, just wait, something else is right around the corner...Don't worry about H2o on the driveshaft, it's always spinning...

I bet he forgot about it a little less than a year ago.

There a story behind that pic?
