Is this a real Vitesse?

Got this at the car auction. It's a 98, has a somewhat suspect "Vitesse" badge on the back. Bumpers, mirrors and grille are painted. Other than that it looks more or less standard. According to rangerovers.net the Vitesse edition was in 97 and were yellow or red. Maybe some moron had his bumpers painted and want to let the French girls know that it didn't take him long to finish.

That's funny. When I think of the P38, vitesse is one of the last things I associate with it.

Sounds like another lame marketing attempt by LR, just like the 1998 50th Anniversary Edition RR:

"Blimey, Nigel, we've got loads of these bloody Woodcote green P38s sitting around with the 4.0 engine and skinny "S" wheels and we're selling bugger all. What shall we do?"

"I know, Phil, let's put a special sticker on them, tart it up as a limited edition, and in 15 years people will be paying foolish amounts of money for them on the resale market because those stupid punters love anything special."

I had a black 2000 Vitesse. Painted grill, headlight trim were one of the differences. Mine did not say 4.6 or HSE, but the Vitesse liked just like that, maybe bigger though.

There wasn't a Vitesse for 98. They made about 250 in 97 and they only came in AA Yellow or Monza Red. The produced the Vitesse again in 2000, but the only color I remember is black. Not sure of the other colors for 2000. White was never a Vitesse color and that badge is not authentic.

Oddly enough this had a HK sub that is diffent than anyone I had seen in any other P38. Who knows what it really was, I do know it cut it up a long time ago.

I ran it and didn't see anything about Vitesse on DDW. Would it say if it was? Just just said something along the lines of Range Rover 4.6 Low Compression
