Wow, Dan, that is a fantastic bit of info. I'll call you next week after I pick her up and hopefully you can drop by and take a look.

She's Home!!!

I picked her up last night! Drove her over 30 miles down interstates and back roads. She did great. Was cruising 60-65 on the highway (briefly).

BTW, I was incorrect. She is a '65 not a '66

I'll be rotating tires, checking fluid levels, changing oil, adjusting steering wheel play (hopefully that will help) this weekend. Give me a call and stop by if you have the time.

I put speed nut (clips) on my wings where they attach to the bulkhead. I also used them on the splatter guard inside the wing. These simple adjustments, along with an electric screw driver and a 7/16th inch socket, allow me to pop the wings off in about 7-10 minutes. It makes access to the engine compartment VERY nice.
When I rebuilt the car, I loosened and retightened every nut and screw I could find. This makes taking them off much easier later.

Damn-Right on with that Tip. How about some more tips like that.

Speed Nuts?

I would love to have that kind of access to the engine- but I'm having trouble with the terminology. What are speed nuts or speed clips? Can they be sourced at a Lowes or HD?

Cheers

Hi Sean and Dan

Hi Guys,
I am in Apex. Sean, I looked at your truck a few months ago and almost bought it. It is a nice one. I wound up buying a 67 IIA 88" with a pick-up top. It is currently finishing up a engine rebuild. I should have it in the next couple of weeks. I would like to get in on this meet up with you and Dan. I can use a few pointers also, as this is my first Series.

Marc,

While I certainly can't invite you to someone's house, you are welcome to stop by the house here in Wake Forest anytime you would like. Let me put in another shameless plug for the Old North State. More and more of the members are using series vehicles as their prime mover, keeping some other version of a Land Rover for "Date Night."

I think the best part is that we tend to be terribly untalented as we work and repair these things, but are determined to do it as much as posible by ourselves. It really is amazing how many of the guys who have been members for a few years making the switch. It is a mixed crowd as well, I tend to say genuine parts only, and some of the other guys swear by OEM, with out it getting to be a pi$$ing contest. Some of the guys have really come up with some good ideas and you might enjoy hanging around with them.

Regardless, give me yell if you want to stop by sometime and I can start all of my lies over again.

Dan

Hey Marc,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Definitely would like to get together. Being my first Series I am asking as many questions as possible. I would like to know how your engine rebuild is coming.

Shoot me an email at slloyd@nc.rr.com

Talk to you soon,
Sean

Yeah ... its a pretty nice winch. It is an older type Warn winch. As said the car is fully drivable, but needs a decent list of things to be done to get it where I want it. The swivel balls look like they are shot (they are pitted and the thing is leaking there). I need to replace the rear crossmember and reinforce one of the outriggers. For the rest the frame is in really good condition. On my list also is changing all the nuts and bolts to stainless where I can, change all the seals & gaskets and replace the weatherstripping/seals. But hey .. the thing is older then me :D

So far I'm happy I got it .. the wife is happy with it as well.

Hey Ajax - I agree about having the wife like it. My wife actually really likes the Series and seems to be interested in getting it fixed up. I was shocked.

Christian - cool looking wagon. I will post more pics of mine once I start the renovation process.

Aren't Series owners just the nicest people? Everyone I have met or talked to about Series trucks are just great.
