Pictures will happen eventually. This is going to have to wait until after I finish the head-gasket repair. I'm just always looking for ways to make the truck better/more organized.

What is the fascination with putting the fire extinguisher on the rear door?

1. It's heavy... mount it to the floor to avoid it flying into your head during a crash!

2. It's inconvenient, especially when your rear door latch stops working and you can't get the door open, or you're buried in mud or on a steep incline/decline!

3. It's the furthest point from the engine which is the most obvious portion of the truck to catch on fire (though it's a rover and anything is possible).

But what do I know...since I used my fire extinguisher to save my truck and everyone else said "let it burn!"

I suppose center-dash would probably be a better place for it. ...or up on the roof somehow. I COULD mount it to the exterior, on the roof rack. At least that'd save room inside.

The roof? Have you ever wrecked a vehicle or hit a rock while going downhill?!

I've got mine attached to the passenger seat base. Tight enough it can't come loose but easy enough to reach when I need it. I think I'm going to order some quick fists to screw down though and make it better.

On my Disco, I had extinguishers on both seat bases and flashlights as well.

I'm a nut about fire extinguishers and have many of them all over the house/shop/rig.

And, guys, I'm the one with the purse!

I have the extinguisher mounted in the back, becasue it is more likely to catch on the fire than the engine.

Rob--from leaking fuel? What else could do it?

Since I had a fire in the engine bay I've been obsessed about extinguishers...maybe I need them in both locations.

1. see fire
2. OO sh-t
3. undo seat belt, run to back of disco
4. OO sh-t rear door locked
5. run back to hit the door switch
6. run back, open door, get extinguisher
7. run to front of vehicle
8. remember that you forgot to pop the bonnet
9. run back to pull the handle to pop the bonnet
10. sinking feeling when you realize that the fire has ruined the release cable and bonnet latch will no longer open.
11. get idea to flood the engine comparment from below with the extinguisher.
OO sh-t, the thing been sitting around so long theres no pressure in it.

If you are trying to put a storage thing around the seat, use a camelback without the bladder if you have one. That may work.

On my seat I'm actually using one of those portable DVD player bags that hang from the seat. Has a couple of open pockets, a zippered pocket, and large zippered shell where the DVD player would go. It's great, holds a few tools, an extra belt, etc.

The only downfall to this is that when living in a very urban area you will be broken into by thugs thinking you really have a DVD player in there.

The DVD bag = $8
The broken window and trashed ignition cylinder = $800
Lesson learned = naaaaahhhhhhhh!

It's actually not for the back of a seat, but for the rear door - I've got a stainless steel panel on the way, and I'd like to attach a MOLLe panel to that to make mounting things easier.

The DVD player bag IS a great idea Jen... too bad about the break-ins tho. :(

What a bunch of kooks!

I carry a gallon of gas behind the driver's seat just in case.
If the truck catches fire I want to make sure it keeps going...

wow, my post got half deleted.

I do all my cooking in the back so there is an open flame back there several times a day during a trip. I am concerned about that going up and burning all my toys in the back.

Rob: Ahh, makes sense now. I forgot about your fancy table set-up!

Jeff: my father-in-law said the same thing when mine caught fire. But, I put it out (in suit and heels!) and have been quite glad I saved my truck. :)

MOLLE webbing! Of course! I already have a shit-ton of MOLLE gear. Even my First Aid kit is in a MOLLE bag. I prefer it in a bag rather than a permanently mounted solution so that I can grab it and get close to whoever may need it, if the truck can't get there, and also so I can take it on long hikes. A big piece of MOLLE webbing would be PERFECT. ...now to find a cheap source. Worst come to worst, I can just use some heavy duty leather and rivet that on there in strips. Of course the fire-extinguisher is going to have to be on there too.

A dedicated light on the panel and shelf are great ideas too. I may have to use a portion of it for a shelf too.

Please don't forget to post pics of your build.

You also might try mounting something like this:
