Well shit. I guess the guy can't be patriotic, then. Trump and Clinton should just sit through the National Anthem from now on.

Yes, Great Depression Ray, fat thumbs on the phone. :)

We're only 25% off here, I'd be curious to know how much of the $675 billion collected in 2016 from income tax came from the private sector. It wouldn't be solid but would give us a better idea. I guess the question is the level of government involvement that may be required in health insurance. I often wonder why insurance companies were not allowed to conduct commerce Nationwide to begin with. You happen to know?

My rudimentary understanding of health care in the US, confirmed by Wikipedia, indicates that as nascent insurance got its start big gov't (aka FDR) thought about nationalizing it since it was in the interest of the whole nation (like education, for example). That was fought-by the AMA. Almost certainly in the interests of individual profit margins for their core interest group(s).

FFWD to today, where the insurance lobby makes the NRA look impotent...but I digress. That, BTW, is one of the reasons why pure capitalism won't fix this (nevermind that such a thing has never really existed in this country, and may not really have bearing on health care-and certainly won't come about from the EO that will actually only reinforce the oligopoly that exists now that raises prices vice lowering them.)

I have to query what your question about the $675B has to do with anything, but I'm sure the number means something to you in this particular context.

In this convo we may see a conflation between business and economics, which much like weather and climate, are not the same thing.

Scott, your answer to this next question will directly depend on if I continue it.

What factors are involved/discussed between two parties negotiating group insurance policy purchase or renewal?

Dare I even continue this conversation?

BTW, nobody's watching your videos Scott.

Why can't you answer how "big groups" (how big?) will cut insurance costs by 75%? Or why havent they prevented costs from rising 2-5x GDP over the last 20+ years?

Please. Just answer those questions.

100%

Not hard to estimate since income taxes only come from the "private sector," aka individuals and for-profit corps, not from governments (public sector) and non-profits (voluntary sector).

Don't you claim to know all about economics?

We could turn it back to some tech; what size lift do I need to run 33's on my D1-and will I need any other mods? Don't really want to take it offroad and can't afford new tires-but want the look.

I hate to continue this but.... my income comes from a government body(local), and I would venture to say there are many others who's income is from other local, state, federal government bodies. All these people pay income taxes on the salary they receive from public sector jobs.

Remember when this was a Land Rover forum. That was great.

Hell, I'd be happy if this thread just got back on topic.

I was at a village board meeting last night for a budget approval item. At the meeting $20,000 and $5,800 checks were presented to the American Legion and Honor Flight, respectively, from a village sponsored fund raising event. There were about 7 or 8 veterans there who had been on the Honor Flight and spoke a little about it. They were all extremely grateful and had nothing but praise for the program. One vet spoke about how he was greeted with boos and people spitting on him when he returned from Vietnam, and what a stark contrast the Honor Flight was to that when they were treated like royalty and received police escorts all through Washington.
One of the co-sponsors of the event went on to say how he "as a Mexican immigrant running an Irish bar was honored as an American to help our Vets".
It was extremely moving.

Afterwards I thought about the immaturity and selfishness of the NFL players and how ridiculous they are. How their protest isn't just bringing light to a just cause, but is disrespectful to many many Americans. I teach my kids to keep their eye on the prize and to not let their behavior detract from the message they are trying to get across. A lesson these NFL players parent probably never taught them.

Someone let me know when they're done being little bitches, or when they get bored. Maybe I'll start watching again.

Total government spending is estimated to be ~36% of GDP. So you could safely say 1/5 (not all govt spending goes directly to salaries)?

Patriotic? You think Trump is Patriotic? You think Trump is raising this shit out of Patriotism? Damn son - your slow as shit sometimes!

Do I think Trump is Patriotic? Yes.

Patriotic
: having or showing great love and support for your country : having or showing patriotism
patriotic songs/speeches
A patriotic fervor swept the country.

I'm not sure how you could say Trump is anything but patriotic, but I'd love to hear why you think this way. Does Trump not defend the Constitution? Does he not support the military? Does Trump not defend voting, free speech, or rallies/parades? Does Trump hate fireworks?

Patriot vs. bad American vs. traitor. I'm not sure what you consider Trump if you do not consider him a patriot.

Do I think Trump is raising this shit out of Patriotism?

I think it's tongue-and-cheek. I believe Trump thinks you should stand for the Anthem. I would also bet Trump feels you should bow your head for prayer, and I know for a fact Trump feels Americans should say Merry Christmas over Happy Holiday. These are Trump's values. While I don't feel Trump is Pope material, I do believe he has Christian values and I do think Trump is patriotic and he is voicing his message. He certinally has a unique way of doing/saying things sometimes, and it may be nontraditional and perhaps it's not even politically correct. I get a kick out of his unapologetic ways. It's a distraction to many, including yourself, but does it really matter? Are Trumps opinions or values hurting your way of life?

The same could be said for Colin Kapernick. Does him kneeling affect my way of life? Does it keep me awake at night knowing he keeled during the Anthem? No, I just think he's an asshole. I'm not going to buy his jersey. Big deal.

Maybe you're one of those people who thinks Trump is a racist because he's not behind the Colin Kapernick movement. I can't even remember what Kapernick's message is/was, so maybe I'm a racist, too, according to people who believe this. Personally I do not feel it is racist to think you should stand for the National Anthem. I think it makes you an asshole to sit/kneel during the National Anthem if you have the ability to stand when the Anthem is being played live.

I hope Trump keeps the pressure on. I hope that when Wal-Mart and Target and Amazon start their Christmas ads this year, if they use the words Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, I hope Trump calls them out just as he did the NFL over the National Anthem. I share these same values with Trump. I'm not a confirmed Catholic and I'm not a member of a church; I'm not a veteran of the military; I do not live to wave an American flag in a parade or visit nursing homes on veterans day. However, I do share American values with Trump and I agree with what's he said about the NFL and the National Anthem. I think a lot of people share these same values and Trump and myself are not alone. That does not make us bad American's, traitors, or racists?

Some believe Trump's comments on the NFL are a distraction. A distraction to what? Russia? Puerto Rico? Tax reform? Healthcare overhaul? Making America Crip again? Are Trump's comments a distraction to Kapernick's message? I don't get it, what's the distraction? Trump can talk for over an hour about 20 different topics at a GOP rally, yet the only thing the media reports on are Trump's 60-second comments on the NFL. So who's distracting who?

You feel Trump is a pussy-grabbing-draft-dodging-reality-show-host-three-times-divorced-failed-businessmen and that makes him unfit for, well, apparently anyting. Let's break that down.

Pussy Grabbing. Have you even grabbed a pussy? Even out of wedlock? Have you ever talked about it? I bet even George Washington grabbed a pussy or two in his day. Lord knows Thomas Jefferson did. And JFK? Name a President and I'll bet you money they grabbed a pussy in their life. I have no doubt Trump has said some incredibility rude things in life. If some woman(men) can come forward and prove Trump committed inappropriate, illegal, sex acts where there was no consent, I would be one of the first to sign a impeachment petition. But is that the case currently? Your point it moot.

Draft Dodging. I don't know the full story here. The only one who seemed to care about this was has-been John McCain. We didn't hear about draft dodging during the election very much. Seems to me the democrats would have been all over this. They weren't. Google searches are vague and apparently the democrats couldn't find much, either. Bill Clinton was a draft dodger as well, and he too liked his women. Double standard? Not sure. Does that mean Bill Clinton or Trump have the inability to lead a country? Guess that depends on which 50% you ask. I don't think it has affected you way of life, though.

Reality Show Host. You bring this up a lot. I'm not sure what it means. Reagan was a movie star, did that make him a bad President? Was he unqualified? I'm not sure of your point here but you mention it a lot. Trump had a job. His job was viewed on TV. Unpresidential?

Three Times Divorced. Two times, actually. I mean, look at the guy. Who wants to see Trump naked? I'd divorce him, too. Relationships are hard. Look around, how many people do you know who have never been divorced? Are the ones who are or have been divorced bad people? Do they do their jobs differently?

Failed Businessman. Really? Not only could Trump buy your entire net worth, he could buy the entire town you live in. Is that failing or winning? I think you're more upset with the federal regulations/laws than you are with Trump himself if your point is the bankruptcies.

I'm not sure what you're so upset about, JB. I've asked you this several times and you've never gave an answer. You just like to gripe and moan but I'm not sure about what. You pull shit out of your ass or off of NBC or something. You too say Merry Christmas and Happy Thanksgiving and have made mention of these statements on your website while also boasting about how your product is made in America next to an American flag. Would it be fair to say that you're a racist? Are you insensitive to the Pilgrims or something? Is it fair to say you hate China and Chinese people? Are you just plain unAmerican and hate the United States Veterans because you do not make a product that highlights the scent of Old Milwaukee and Doral cigarettes? That's what your words about Trump amount to - they're just unfathomable statements that have very little to do with much of anything.

At least 15 people have accused him of sexual assault. He bragged about it on tape.

Now, go ahead, start making excuses.

Dan,

I got a Christmas card from Trump last year way before he won or even had a prayer of winning. In the inside it said Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your family. No shit, I'll take a picture for those who don't believe me.

Do I think Trump is Patriotic? Yes..

I agree with quite a few of these points.

2 things tho...

1. It's not simply grabbing a pussy that got people all in a tizzy. It was his assertion that he can walk up to any random chick and grab her cooch and she won't mind because he is rich and famous.

2. There is no way in hell Trump is a Jesus guy. I'm not saying he's a Satan worshipper, but come on man :p

So some thoughts.

The fact that this thread is called Kneeling NFL players (and not sitting NFL players) is because a veteran sat down with an activist and got him to kneel vice sit. Does that change how some feel on the matter; no-but it adds some credence to the reality that how you feel about this depends on a lot of things but one primary indicators are race & gender. Links sourcing all that are sprinkled throughout this thread.

So disrespect is very much in the eye of the beholder.

That the message intended has been co-opted and perverted for political fodder is undeniable. How you feel on that likely depends very much on where you sit politically too. But if we want to have that discussion, by all means-much has transpired in that vein even since the start of this thread.

I would note that I think saying that NFL players got there by sheer luck flies in the face of all the discipline and dedication that has to accompany their athletic talents. It may/may not have been their parents instilling those values there but the reality is what they do is the apex of a field, and one that is exceptionally difficult to get to.

But getting back to the topic at hand; disrespecting folks. Should we discuss the place of Gold Star families in this country, and how they are treated?

Or should we accept Dan's comment about Sen McCain as a has been. A man who, despite plenty to disagree with in terms of substance of policies supported, stands apart in having forgotten more about serving to this country than most can fathom.

If he is a has been, then the sitting president is a never was, and never will be.

By all means, lets talk about this. All of it.

Every one of them is powerful, or should be.

It has to be noted this is a self-created crisis too (like the title of this thread).

Trump is not well spoken, he picks fights and can't take the heat in the kitchen - that's Trump. Some/Many have seen these flaws and decided his message was better and the flaws could be overlooked.

My question for McCain and Corker, why? Both of them have limited time and this is how they want to be remembered? Fighting and/or Provoking Trump? Bizarre indeed. McCain I can see maybe, but Corker?
