Land Rover Class Action

I was getting the usual Land Rover "quality" spiel from someone who hasn't even rode in a LR and then I was forwarded this the other morning by them:

http://www.landroverclassaction.com/

Has anyone seen this? I googled it and got some hits with the same story. I searched this website too and didn't find any further details. I did read, however, that a lot of the LR3 guys have been replacing tires...I thought this was of some interest.

Just an FYI.

I didn't follow your link, but the factory LR3 goodyears are crap. We've got 18k on ours and they've been rotated twice and they are shot to hell. Hoping a decent set of tires will last. I've got 60k on a set of Nittos on my truck and they are fine, plenty of tread left

I saw pictures of the Nittos on someone's green LR3. Looks really sharp. I like daily drivers that hint of a weekend warrior.

Most of the time OEM tires are garbage. For some it's a soft compound to improve ride, some it's a marginally sized/rated tire for the price. My Sebring's tires were worn out by 10k miles, and I pushed it to 15k before I replaced them. the next tires lasted 25K+ and were high performance/low profile.

Reading that complaint blog will make one never want to own a RRS or LR3!!

Unless you have a mental problem, like much of us on this board, that is true. Also, driving a Rover that doesn't "break down" on you is pretty cool. Only thing our LR3 has been in the shop for is problems with the Sirius radio. It drives so nice, and is comfortable on long trips, and with the v6 we usually avg. about 21mpg. (around town, well, that's another story)

I'm sure I'll be complaining a lot more when my Rover is out of warranty, but for now I can tolerate it.:D

Well... I once had a Ford Aerostar with original Michelins XW4 replaced at 113kmi.
Had an XJ Cherokee with the same XW4s nearly bald at 45kmi.
Some tires, it seems, just don't suit some suspensions.

I had a friend that was a LR service manager when the LR3 and Sport came out. There were many complaints with the new tires flat spotting badly. They had taken to putting like 75 psi in them to keep them round while they sat waiting to be prepped and put on the lot. I drove an LR3 demo and it was like a horse and buggy for about 30 minutes till the tires got round again.

There is a service bulletin stating LR will pay for the mount and balance and pay up to 75% of the cost of the tires I believe. It's a pro-rated deal and varies on mileage I think.

yeah this problem has been addressed by a recall as mentioned above. for information, there was a class action against the dI (years ago) in regards to corrosion of the body, but i've hardly ever heard of corrosion on a dI body. i'm not sure what that ambulance chase was about. i'm sure you can find a class action on almost all cars

LR and lawsuits tend to go together - after all our beloved brand has been near the bottom of the reliability ratings forever (thank goodness for Hyundai!). DI's have had lots of rust problems (mainly around the alpine windows, rear fenders, and load bed). The biggest problem was that some were "fixed" under warranty only to rust again as soon as they were out of the standard warranty, pissing a lot of owners off. LR really had no excuse as most manufacturers have long fixed corrosion problems prior to the introduction of the US D1. Rusty RRCs at least had an excuse. All trucks of that vintage rusted.

Even D2's have had their share of lawsuit threats with their early engine problems - again just as the warranty expired.

Though I agree, suing LR because of tires is plain stupid. People just looking for $$$.

it depends is it the tires or the fact that the specs for the suspension goes from fucked to really fucked with a small margine of correctness inbetween. just because it's in specs doesn't mean it's too far out to provide proper alignment. we know how Lr springs sag, even a small amount in a Independent suspension setup will throw it out of alignment.
