Others have sold for several grand. I imagine it'd be like finding a NIB Colt SAA where the packaging had never been breached. Or a perfectly preserved barn-find Series IIa.

It's a military version of the M4. I suppose it's "rare" because it hasn't been opened? Don't know much about the f2 50mm lens. I have a M4 -but not black- with a 50mm lens and I don't think it's worth anywhere near that.

Leicas are sweet, and obviously the rarity is what draws the value. That being said, I would much prefer a digital hassy

The KE, out or my memory, it is built for military purpose, extremely rare even in a used market. People are willing to pay crazy money for it.

And in general the price on Leica is really Jacked up like nuts over the pass 6-7 years.

this is a long, long (long) time ago but...

In the early 80's my dad sold three Leica bodies, two turret mounts, around 20 lenses, cases, accessories and who knows what else. Mostly stuff from the 50's to 70's.
With that money, he bought three Canon cameras (one for me, him and my brother). Two lenses each, and cases. Plus a microwave for my mom, a mink stole and a solar hot water system for the house.
Crazy money in the 80's. I can just imagine what they would be worth today.

You nailed it pretty much; these were military issue so if you find a ke-7a or the ks15-4 they're generally beat to hell. I'd save the money and just buy more M4's if I needed another.

You properly get around 500x2 on the bodies, and 300-500 per lens, but if it have all the case and papers, it worth a lot more. and accessories can be expensive too.

This brand is increasing the price of the new model by 20%, so that really pull the price of the 2nd hand market upwards as well.

I had a screw mount Summarit 5cm/1.5 Yr1952 , bought it dirt cheap for 250, around 2009, now i am seeing the same model in worse condition for over 500. And he Summarit is not even a well none lens like the "cron" (f2 series) and the "lux" (f1.4 series).

If anyone still have a Leica, hold on to it till you really need the money, it is worth taking up the space in your cabinet, lol.

Even the first generation M8 / M8.2 is still being use by many people, which is a 10 years old digital camera.
