A friend of mine called from the road with an overheating D2, I suggested she get the truck to LR Hilton Head because at least they might know what they were looking at instead of having bubba scratch his head trying to get toyota parts for it.

The truck was overheating at highway speeds and was not overheating
at idle.

The truck has had a long history of disappearing coolant and I have done many exhaust gas tests and I know the head gaskets are in good shape, I replaced all of the hoses, the thermostat, and the valley pan gasket.

The truck has had no history of overheating except when the coolant leaked out and air got into the system.

I finally got the truck to stop losing coolant by using bars leaks head gasket fix on the block.

I know it was a short term fix but it actually worked very well and for longer than I would have thought.

Anyway, I thought that LR HH could do a diagnosis of the problem.

They said that the Radiator, Water Pump and Thermostat needed to be replaced and that there was no slipped liner or porosity present and the head gaskets were not blown.

They would replace the rad, water pump and T-stat for $3000.

THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS....

In case you missed it....

THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS

I called the service writer and asked if the three grand fix did not work because of porosity, would they give a refund on the repairs?

No they would not.

We had some tense words and I got the impression that service writer chicky doesn't think too much of me. Fuck her, I don't think too much of her either but whatever.

So I ordered the parts from Will for less than $400 delivered.

I am going to drive down there tommorrow, replace the Rad, Water pump and T-stat and drive the truck home.

If it overheats at highway speed then I was right and it is porosity and the motor is coming out.

If it does not overheat then I will be happy that I saved my friend a shitpot full of money and that LR HH did not get away with perpetrating an ass fucking for three thousand dollars for a rad, water pump and t-stat.

And on top of that, some scummy saledude from LR HH keeps calling my friend trying to sell her a new car and he said he might be able to get a grand for her D2 in a trade.

Fucking douchebags, I might piss on their front door just for fun.

The thing that pisses me off was that I suggested that she go there. I won't ever make that mistake again.

Not seeing the value added benefit of paying $500 more on each of the parts. Granted I am buying aftermarket but then the chicky said, "we only mark up our parts 30%", I said if that is the case then how come I can buy Genuine parts for less than half of your price? She disparaged me at that point.

Between the gobs of attitude, the slimy stalker salesman, the outrageous ass fucking on the price of the repair I can see why car dealers are sucking it. They should go out of business if this is the best they can do.

Has anyone ever had a good experience at the dealer with Service

Yup. I'm batting 1.000 for good experiences at the dealer. The one time I went there I had my key fob remote control reprogrammed successfully. The dealership also washed and vacuumed my truck. It came back looking great. And they told me I needed a head gasket replacement. And they said it would cost me over $2,000 to do it. The best part was knowing how much I'd save by doing the job myself.

While I was waiting I enjoyed watching sports on their big screen TV, helping myself to the contents of the fridge, relaxing in the nice leather chair, and stocking up on slick paper catalogs of fancy new Rovers that I can't afford and can't fix.

Oh yeah, and the receptionist was pretty hot.:D

I have stuff done to my truck at Land Rover North Point and Matt Davis is my service writer and he is awesome. The whole service department over there is pretty good. I guess it helps that I was a stupid teenager and have been taking my truck there for 10 years.
