LR3 bashers...

Is it me, or are there people out there (look down the list of "last posted by" names on this forum) who have nothing to do with their time other than berate the LR3??? I have a disco that I love, but I am also open minded enough to see that the LR3 is a very nice car.

Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have an underpowered, gas hungry, noisy, bumpy-riding, lousy braking car with a half-ass excuse of a back seat that conveniently leaks water through the door jam; than a car that I can take 4 friends, two dogs and all my gear camping and enjoy the ride and even be able to make U-turns without going at it three times. Yeah I would much rather have the Disco because it's "manly" and the LR3 is "wussy."

I don't know, maybe if a person can't afford one, or if the LR3 is too nice to park in front of the trailer he should just tell us instead of spending all of Tuesday telling the world why he hates the car so much.

I have a question to the LR3 haters out there, how many of you have driven the car yet?

I see that you are trying to point the finger at me which is BS. I personally don't have anything against the LR3 design standpoint, never said that I did either. My shots at the LR3 were aimed at how it's been marketed. I don't believe I even once compared it to a Disco except in price which is a valid comparison based on where it stands in the Rover lineup. Everyone seems to miss the fact that it doesn't matter if it is different or not from the Disco, the perception is that it is replacing the Disco, bottom line. As far as off-road, do you think that more people are going to be buying LR3s for off-road use than Discos? You're nuts if you do, it doesn't even matter if it's better than the Disco off-road. That's a shrinking market which is why I don't think you will see as many off-road accessories for it. The last and current range rovers are perfect examples, or even the Freelander. So, my comments on the LR3 did not once take a shot at the design of it or the off-road performance of it. Although I will stand by comment that these things rae getting to technical for reall off-raod use because they cost a fortune to fix if you break something. That's my personal stance on that no matter how capable they are.

Now let me respond to the personal attack. I got into Land Rovers because they were in my opinion the best all around vehicle that you could get for the money. Comfortable yet still sitting on the same basic construction that lifted thier name to prominence for 50 odd years. Now that the LR3 price has shot up considerably, I feel that there is probably a lot more real competition to it that is $10K or more less.

I also would love to know where the trailer comment came from. I thought I graduated 3rd grade about 20 years ago. If you want to reduce this site to juvenile name calling and bickering then go ahead. The only thing you left out of that post was calling me a "poopy head". I belive that I am free to criticize the way that Land Rover is handling the LR3 campaign without being attacked. I would love to see some responses either with or against me to atleast spark some conversation. I did not personally attack the LR3 because I have not driven one, I'll admit that. If you read my other posts, I said I would be interested in one if the price were more in line with the Discovery. If I wasn't slow at work on Tuesday and posting in the LR3 forum, then nobdy would. Half of the posts on first page were from last year. If you're so gung ho about the LR3 then why don't you start posting some experiences or thoughts about it instead of attacking one of the only people willing to even post in here!

I've driven an LR3.. and so far the only thing I really don't like is the rear of it.. get me a swing-away tire carrier and it'd be perfect. would I wheel it? Probably not.. but thats the same thing I said about my d2.

If it helps, there are those of us here on dweb who think the D2 was the end of Land Rover as an usable offroad vehicle. Or the start of the wussy rovers ... :p :D :D :D

I can agree with that to a certain extent. I'll take a Defender or nice series II (not Disco)over anything. My biggest complaint with the first go round of the series 2 Disco was ditching the diff lock. I guess it's there, but there doesn't seem to be any cheap or easy way to get it rigged up. Other than that, I think my Disco 2 is more or less as tough as my Disco 1 was. More electronics though which alway scares me.

Ah geez- people complained about the Defender when it came out because it had a computer in it... the end of Land Rover.
Then the Disco came out and it had more computers in it and wussy stuff like standard air conditioning... the end of Land Rover.
The Freelander came out and it was small and independent suspended and again... the end of Land Rover.
Now the Discovery III (LR3 for North America) and again... the end of Land Rover.
So far, all the vehicles ended up exceeding expectations...

The off-road hobby, as far as I can tell, is slowly dying off. It's fairly rare for people to buy anything brand new for the sole purpose of wheelin it, so why try to sustain a large company by catering to the 1 in 100 buyers? They should maintain ONE model in the line that will maintain the 'cred' first earned by the early farm trucks, but it appears that there is no intention of doing that. The Rubicon is moving into that niche and is really the only viable NEW alternative for the off road enthusiasts aside from maybe a Yota 4 Runner with optional diff locks etc.

Valid points, I agree with the 4-wheeling, it is not a big market with new vehicles anymore.

Joe, this may help. About as cheap and easy as it gets: http://www.discoweb.org/cdl/index.htm

Pretty funny. Thanks for the link, I'll have to look in to that. That was the biggest thing that I missed from my first Disco, and my Defender :( (I miss that truck, should have kept it.)

Hey Joe (where you goin' with gun in your hand?):

Just noticed you are in Melbourne. My sis was born there. I used to live off Sheridan Rd, on Sylvan Drive, not far from Housers Grove (and Zoo) and not far from I-95. Is all that stuff still there?

Where are you in Melbourne?

I'm in west melbourne off of Hollywood Ave. I think you are talking about the Viera area? I've only been here for a year and a half so I'm still getting to know the area.

I know this is a joke (right?) but I'm curious to know what criteria one would use to determine that the SIII is wussy and the SIIa isn't. Two-speed wipers?

Alright Joe,

I might have been a bit out of line with the trailer comment, it was uncalled for and for that I apologize (poopy head ;) Anyone who can afford to drive and wheel a rover probably isn't 4-wheeling it to the foodstamp line. There are more posts on this thread in two days than on any other LR3 thread in the past year or so. I am glad people are actually reading this mumbo jumbo I spit out.

Now will someone tell me how big of a tire will fit on those 18's on an LR3?

i like the LR3 and would drive one myself, but you are really giving the DII a bad name with some of those comments, its a whole lot better than most vehicles on the road when it comes to braking, gas mileage, back seat, noisy, bumpy riding, etc... however the water leaking through the back door never stops pissing me off...
