After seeing the pics of that black one, the LR3's are starting to grow on me. I hear there will be a Hannibal rack for them soon. I'm looking forward to seeing a pic of one with the rack and lights...

I will have mine in a week or so. Lights to follow soon after that. It will look something like this (plus lights):

build your own for cheaper than that, you could get a SEv8 get the HD package put some tires on it,arb bull bar winch and stuff like that for cheaper than 60k

you guys need to stop calling it a "D3" that disgraces the Discovery name, its an LR3 with FULLY INDEPENDANT SUSPENSION....a real Disco anything has solid axles and looks more like a rover than a ford expedition

A D2 is very similiar to a D1 (solid axles, blah blah blah), whereas the LR3 is just... well... an "LR3"

That's why they call it the "LR3." simply because it's NOT a Discovery, and Rover didn't want it to be called/mistaken for a Discovery.

No, it is called an LR3 for marketing and consumer perception issues in the North American market. Everywhere else in the world it is the Discovery 3.

Does anyone know of a lift for the lr3, I saw some pics on Mn. landrovers web site of a lifted lr3, but cant find out anything about it. It looked awsome with ARB bumper and snorkle.

The only lifted LR3's are the coil sprung versions. Mine is lifted nearly 2.5"
http://blog.nextstepdesigns.com/?p=38

For the air suspended versions, you can get a German software/hardware kit that fools the level sensors into thinking you are lower than you are, but that's not really a lift kit, it just allows you to go into extended mode (1.5" higher than off road mode) manually, and disables the 30mph speed limit in raised mode. It costs several thousand dollars.

yes, I do remember hearing that.... but we live in america and it is an LR3, not a discovery.
Yes, but it's built in Britain and over there people can tell the difference between it and a D2 or a D2. Overhere the D1 and the D2 have a bad reputation and so as not to confuse people they had to re-name it to let them know that this Discovery is not extactly the same as that Discovery.

Also if you want to be a true LR purist, then the company officially lost it's balls when the introduced the D1, and leather seats in the RRC. LR built trucks to do chores around the farm and fight wars, the original RR was a slightly more modern all purpose vehical that could pull horse trailors and take you hunting during the day, but could also be used to take the family to dinner in, something a Serries 2 was bad at. The Disco was their first attemp at building a truck marketed toward normal everyday city folks, it was designed to be comfortable and luxurious, they used a Defender/RR chassis because they allready had it so it was cheap.

Point is LR is a car company, they have to produce things that the market wants to buy, or they go broke. Recently LR's sales figures have been great so clearlyLR has figured out a way to make a car that does exactly what the customer wants and needs, same way the Serries did exactly what was wanted and needed from it. Personally I don't like the Disco3/LR3, it's just too big for me, but the MK3 and the RRS are a good size and if I needed another truck as a DD I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
