i guess a mantec one would look better but it be hard to re route the air intake in the engine bay, too much crap. Also that roof rack looks okay but i like full length racks. also the genuine winch tray isn't bad but i'd rather have the arb still

Ben, The tires are the same - Nittos. The snorkels are the same - Land Rover Genuine.

The black one's wheels have been powder coated black - the whole wheel. The Zebra's were masked off, and painted to give the alternating spokes...

Back to the snorkel - they are huge... If you think a Safari Snorkle is big, wait till you have this one in your hands. I look forward to Mantecs offering, anything cleaner looking - but to execute it with their previous design, they would have you re-routing the air intake - just like the D2 reroute; but unlike the D2, it would leave you with a 'vent to nowhere' on your fender...

I know the tires are the same nitto's and the snorkels are the same, but the way they powder coated the zebra's looks like crap. How much does powder coating usually cost for wheels? Also aren't the genuine snorkels really just for dust and don't seal off water

Ben - I was quoted $50/wheel if I wanted to wait a couple of weeks; so I called the next powder coating guy in the yellow pages - he charged $75/wheel and I had them in my hands 2 days later.

The Zebra wheels were masked&painted - not powder coated. The body-shop guy that did the painting said it was a bit of a pain, and he didnt look forward to doing another set.

After seeing the pics of that black one, the LR3's are starting to grow on me. I hear there will be a Hannibal rack for them soon. I'm looking forward to seeing a pic of one with the rack and lights...

I thought that already came out. And after driving one for a year it has def. grown on me, and I also love the power of the v-8. A v-6 loaner I drove for a couple of days just didn't feel right with all that weight.

The wheels are coated in a process called "Fusion coating". There is a firm in California that does it for a little over $100 per wheel.

I really like that black "Darth Vader" LR3. Specifically for one reason, you get to keep the raw plastic trims that are hugely functional when off roading. My "Storm Trooper" LR3 has the plastic skirts and trims painted out, and they look good, but are fragile to scratching and so forth when off roading. If I were to do it again, I'd go all black like that.

Here is a photo of my rig in all white, with fusion coated black wheels and Nittos

your LR3 is a "storm trooper" and I personally think it's way to white. maybe more tinit on the windows would help.

Also does anyone know if it might be safe if I move my spare to my roofrack for general use? I'm thinking about buying the cooper STT's and I need all my cargo space sometimes. I think it could put stress on the on the supports since the load rating is 135lbs. I know it would make the car more top heavy but how bad would it be? And suggestions would help

I personally think that nearly untinted windows change the aspect of the rear of the car beneficially. I really think the 3/4 view of the LR3 is ungainly. Not having the tinted windows helps minimize the ungainly aspect somehow, and I like it. But it wouldn't be custom if it was for everyone, right? :)

As for the roof rack and tire, it's what I plan on doing. I'm having a custom roof rack fab'ed up. I hope to pick it up this week (of course, I said that last week too!). The major reason for my roof rack is for the spare tire (and some gas & water cans). I want to relocate my exhaust system to maximize my ground clearance. The low slung pipes are getting dinged up where there are now. Getting the spare tire out of the way will help me get above the rear driveshaft, though I will have to go with a single tube exhaust.

I don't want the rear tire on that new swing away rear bumper tire mount. It looks great, but I love the way the window allows such great rear visability. Putting a tire there to block the visability just seems like the wrong way to go. If it was on the drivers side, I'd be all over it.

I do like the amount of visibility the LR3 has.

Post pics of your rack when you get it done because I would like to see yours.

TN-LR3, just remember that you lose off roading durablity The Honda Element lookalike plastic body panels are extremely functional. Painting them as I have makes them very sensitive to everything on the road and off it. I am in the process of pricing out that 3M clear plastic body film for added protection. Kinda funny, I need to protect finish of the panels that were installed to protect the finish....

that sucks. and those plastic body panels can take a beating and mine don't seem to scratch easily so it works out for me. Now did you get them painted or did you buy it that way
