Ok, is there a trick to removing the lug nuts on a Disco? The wrench in the toolkit does not fit and there are covers on each lug nut. I have tried to pry these off to get to what seems to be the actual lug nut and have not been successfull with mild to mod. effort. Do I just need to really pry the covers off? Thanks!

Lug nut covers stay on. If your wrench really doesn't fit then you don't have the real one, is it gold color?

Your nuts are probably on really tight, I've bent my wrench trying to get them off. Use a cheater bar over your wrench.

I found a post on the net that said that the covers are scratch guards and that, if they have not been removed much they are a little too big and need to have the lugnut wrench or impact socket pounded on as they deform slightly. I tried this and it works well.

the person who said this is a moron and probably doesnt own a land rover. With the proper wrench there is no pounding involved. Also no offense but really there should be no reason to have to deform a part to remove it, especially something that is commonly removed like lug nuts....my two cents, btw I use a 1 1/16" craftsman wrench

I bet some tire shop fucked em all up. Happened to me. I don't know what socket Les Schwab used but forever after the factory lug wrench is a tight one.
You can remove the chrome covers but your left with a black lugnut with a hole in the middle and you'll have to find another lug wrench to fit them.

So full of fail. The correct size is a 1-1/16 6point. Unfrotunately many tire shops are POS and use a 1-1/8 socket. This ends up ruining the caps and can ultimitely leave somone in a situation where they may be unable to change their tire.

Yup, the previous owner of my disco had les schwab totally deform the covers and smash them all out of shape with an impact wrench and the wrong size (bigger than 1 1/16" socket)...took a bit of coaxing to get them to cooperate again. Very frustrating indeed.

tire kingdom fawked up my lugnuts, this weekend i hammered a 1 1/16th on the the sockets and it bent them back into place enough to where I could change a tire if i had to. but of course i carry hammers and such in my truck at all times anyway.

...when they age, the covers have a tendency to expand and sockets don't fit properly. Take a big effin mallet and tap your tire iron into place. When you get them off, good idea to have another set of lug nuts to put on...

Please don't tell me that you're stranded along side the road in the rain and wearing wing-tips:rofl:

you need new lug nutz

theyre not 'covers' and they arent supposed to come off.... (!)

using the correct wrench they can last for a long time. well, atleast mine at 5 years old, are like new.

I agree they suck and deform easy, tho
