The rear has grease all over it (the outside), I think it's just the hub seal.

The front wheel has some play in the wheel but my guess is bearings. Why would the hub need to be replaced??

What do you guys think? ?

Why?

Because they can. Most likley, it is just the seal (as in the the rear leak) or the runout or slack in the hub nut (for the front). Both can be remedied for little coin, though I have yet to find a crossover for the hub oil seal.

Try this: take a fairly long drive without a lot of brake application, like maybe a spin on the neighborhood super-slab. Get out and feel the hubs. If they are hot, then *maybe* you need new hubs, but most likely the bearings/hub nut needs to be snugged up a bit. The hubs on the Rover are a stout bit of kit. I'm still on the original hubs and bearings on my 1972, though I've repacked the bearings and changed the seals plenty of times.

Hijack! good start for a discussion. has anyone ever tried to just tighten everything up? I am,of course speaking of the axles. I was told recently that my alignment couldnt be done because the shakedown showed some signs of looseness in the kingpins. I think they have gotten sick of me making them honor a lifetime alignment every 6K. I can't really afford all of the parts for a swivel rebuild because I want to do it all when I do it. I am thinking I can just snug up some nuts and see what happens. No leaks or anything. I have the swivels with all 3 holes but I put one-shot in it to keep it from leaking for last 100K. There is no sign of looseness in my steering or anything else. I never bite on the services they say I need because it usually has just been done or will be done soon. I think I am just going to take it back in and make them do it anyway.
