does anyone have any experience with the 5.0 V8 mercedes uses in thier S, SL, and CL class ? Are these reliable high milage motors? I'm looking at a CL with around 50,000 miles. Just something as a summer daily driver, looking to save gas money :D over my F150.

50K miles, it's barely broken in. Really, if well maintained, the only issue is timing chain tensioners.

When I was working at the M/B shop (primarily M/B at least) I routinely saw them with really, really high miles. We had a woman who owned a '94. The odometer quit working about '99 with 199K on it. God only knew how many miles it had on it by the time I saw it.

Because they are used to driving rover v8's.

I just bought a '97 Land Cruiser in New Mexico with 137k on it and flew out and drove it home without a care in the world, 2200 miles. Most of us would not do that with a '97 D1.

haha we would have to sweet-talk our rovers to do something like that.

tell them we'll buy them really good gas & accessories to convince them not to break on the trip.

i also promise octane boosts to smooth the deal over.

Er, I drove a quarter million mile Series truck from New Jersey to Indiana with nothing more than a bag of tools and a sleeping bag.

My Disco has 230K on it and I'd not hesitate to drive it to visit RBBailey. My '93 LWB has 187K on it, same story. The kid's SWB has a lot of miles-if the brake booster didn't leak vacuum, I'd do the same.

I am not at all frightened by high miles on a Rover engine-but, I can fix them!

The engine / tranny will not be a problem.
However 2000 - 2001 were know for having A/C Condenser/Evapoartor issues, and the SOB are located behind / under dash, so fix it the whole dash needs to come off.

CL with the sport package looks very sharp ( almost like the 55 without the powerplant )

ah, I notice 3 vehicles that showed A/C service on the carfax report, I was trying to find a '03 or '04 in white. Every one I find is either black or silver.
