And if you buy an e300 just remember the diesel pumps are going to fail from the ultra low sulphur diesel. all the mechanical diesels, we used to see, are long gone from the low sulphur diesel. The farmers use their farm diesel which still has lubricant.

There is a guy down south that sells viton seal kits. http://www.fryerpower.com/store/page14.html

I should have been more specific- I was referring to " modern Mercs". Dear lord yes! W124s have one of the best engines - diesels especially! The 210s were good modern Mercs... All the old injection pumps hate modern d fuels it seems.

Many folks add 2 stroke oil or ATF for added pump lubrication.

I had a roommate that was into diesel Mercedes from the 80's. I was pretty impressed with how well the interiors held up. All of them had some rust, but nothing crazy (being in Richmond, Va).

yes. especially northern cars. 210's were very very boring vehicles.

I disagree with jb. the 124's were the last truly over built Benz E class. The 210 is 'tinny'.

if you have one with self leveling, be prepared to drop a good amount of money when the lines start to leak from rust.

The engines are fine and the transmissions will last if you service them regularly.

You may still find one in great condition south of Virginia, especially in the WASPy economic areas.

Every 210, thru out shop, has rust even the ones detailed regularly. Unfortunately after 15 years even my BMW is starting to rot. Wagons always start in the rear and work thru the quarter panels. The benzs rot at the bottom of the doors up and at the wheel well lips.

They are extremely boring but if you find one in good shape it will rot out before it leaves you stranded. The common issues are crank sensors, stop light switches, and hvac head units. The steering wheel buttons are always sticky, from the coating wearing off but you can buy new buttons.

mine is a Colorado car with no rust.

Walter is right, M5 wagon is awesome. I am partial to Volvos, XC70 or 90 what I like.

I was rather upset the other week when a junk 850R showed up to be used for a ram class when I was working a DoS driver training course the other week. 80% of what we use are the typical Taurus and ragged out Buicks that will give you Hep C. The R even had to stock wheels on it.

I am very partial to the 850s as they were such solid cars and the wagons running BTCC back in the day.

My parents have an XC70 and feels pretty soulless. I find an 850T more "fun".
