Shop is putting the heads back on tomorrow or Monday - I'll keep you all posted.

The dealer manager was pretty good to work with.. he basically asked me what I thought was a fair price to pay for the labor to stick the truck back together after all that had transpired...

Did you ever check compression? I figure you most likely did, but I don't remember seeing results in this post.

I am having a misfire on number 5 only, and I am just now starting to try and figure it out. I just found out I have zero compression on number 5 and the rest are good.

Well - they did a pressure test and it held fine for 48 hours. Not sure what they loaded it to from a PSI perspective.

UPDATE: got the truck back today - purrs like a little kitten. The dealer put 30 miles on it, let it sit over night, drove some more and no more misfires now that the heads have been done.

I'll post back if there are any issues that arise. I want to thank PT for his great support and for doing the heads for me...

I will say this about LR Omaha - The service department absolutely did right by the customer at the end of the day.

There was no charge for the original diagnosis and fix (to include a new coil pack). That entire bill was credited back to me.

On the repairs they basically asked me how much I though I should pay them for all the work - I gave them a number and they stuck to it by reducing the hourly shop rate and discounting gaskets and such to meet my number. They billed me accordingly with no surprises.

So why didn't this show up on a compression test?

You got me! I took one look at the heads and knew the valve wasn't doing what it was supposed to. My machinist did the same and upon disassembly, the condition of the valve guide for that valve was immediately obvious.

The dealership told me they sent the heads out to be tested for leaks, that was all they told me. Peter asked me to have them disassembled, checked over, measured and done to whatever they needed.

To be honest, I must say that this is the first time that I have seen an intake valve on a Rover that was not opening/closing correctly. The guide was reamed and knurled and Bingo, Robert's your mother's brother!

good stuff man, thats great news. Wonder how many other misdiagnosed cases get out the door.

I mean its usually pretty obvious if something has been misdiagnosed because it comes right back in the door when the same problem comes back...

which is probably quite frequent at most stealerships.

and by misdiagnosed, I meant in this instance, how would this one come back if they just put a new engine in?

Because they would have put in a short block which would not have included new heads.

Do you really think that the technicians at most dealerships have no idea what they're doing?
