Yep, and as they become hypoxic from gagging on their own blood they get anxious and start stumbling around the room spraying and smearing blood everywhere. It's bright red blood not black like Mobile 1 oil that hasn't been changed in 41k miles. Had to bring it back on topic

mmm, wouldn't a varice produce bright red blood? since it's proximally located it has had a chance to be digested. an ulcer or some such would be the source of coffee ground color emesis though.

It's all bad and smelly. I used to keep a cigar for just such instances in the rescue. Dead bloating bodies and bloody stools are smells you just cant get out of your mind for awhile. Used to smoke the cigar to saturate my clothes and take my mind off the smell. I only occasionally go on these types of call now, thank goodness.

a varice would most likely produce bright red blood because it is not going to sit in the stomach very long. also, there can be some "coughing up" involved. both due to the fact that they can beed out very quickly! however, an ulcer (in most cases) will sit in the stomach long enough to darken...hence the coffee grounds either by emesis or defacation.

and yes kelly....bloody stools can be very nasty smelling! fun to play in though....
