Has anyone done this? I am thinking of moving them but want to see if it has been done by anyone around here. Would like to know where they were moved, issues, etc....

Why would you want to move them? I think they are in a pretty good place. I would be more concerned with sealing the air box, MAF sensor, and the air intake before I'd start worrying about the coils. Are you really going through that deep of water that you'd need to move the coils?
if you are moving them to make it easier to change the wires I kind of understand that, if you have SAI. I still think it is unnecessary to move them though.

I'm wondering about this too Mike. It's not like you need access to them all the time, and they are in a well protected place that isn't likely to get wet in water crossings or adverse weather.

Except when you do need access to them, having to take the engine half apart to do it may not be particularly convenient. If you've got SAI it's even more work. Also if you wanted to use hotter coils you need a little more space.

Hope I find out what I need to swap out in addition to the ECU to remove SAI, would love to finish that in the spring so I have somewhere to relocate the washer bottle to.

I just don't like where they are. I think it is stupid with a capital S! Why in God's name did they put them there. And don't tell me that it was some genius LR engineer that thought that would be a great place to protect them. I don't believe that. There is very little area to dissipate heat as well. All I want to do is raise them up a bit so that I have better access to them. As far as sealing things up. I have done and do that. I just think there is a better way. Why settle for something less than optimal that you can make better?

Cheers,

Mike

Same guy that did the O-rings for the heater in the P38.

you've got a hard-spot for those orings don't you.

I just replaced #6 wire on the wifes DII with SAI (of course) and HOLY SHIT! who came up with that crap?? 2 hours to get the SAI pipe out of the way and 5 minutes to replace the wire. I'd do them all but it's too damn cold out.

I had a frequent mis-fire on #6, decided to check the plug and the boot fell apart in my hand. I was hoping for an old plug and a 10 minute job, should've known better.

I've been searching to see what it takes to get rid of the SAI because I don't feel like putting that damn thing back in....what's an ECU run?
