Does anyone have any experience with the multiple double cardan drive shaft in the front of a D1? Particularly at highway speeds, 70-75mph.

I posted a BIG long post on DS vibration and everything I went through to fix it, including the front output bearing.. Search "front output"..

But yes, I have a lifted D1 that purrs down the freeway at 75 now instead of yanking out tooth fillings..

Key note here, use just 1 DS at a time, get it smooth, disconnect it and then work on the other..

Rear key, was spacers on trailing arms to get angles to match on a non flex UJ shaft..

Front key, was caster correction arms and aligning it carefully with the panhard.

Yeah, by front caster correction arms you mean pulling the diff down. You probably have a single single standard front drive shaft in your truck right? I've been all over this thing. I'm just tired of spending $600 just to try a different combination that won't ruin the way the truck drives. Caster has been corrected 3 degrees, stock drive shaft vibrates like hell. Double cardan driveshaft installed to see if it'd soak up any issues, much better but still a slight vibration And I don't really care to have this driveshaft in for long because it's a rebuilt and balanced stock D2 shaft without a greaseable center ball. Front diff should be inline on the single side of the double cardan shaft, I'm sitting at about 4.7 degrees. That's my slight vibration. My next step would be to replace the brand new 3 degree arms with 6 degree arms. Or, install a multiple double cardan which will eliminate angle related vibration in the front period. Buttt.. the catch is that it's a very heavy shaft and could induce dynamic vibrations with higher speeds. That's why I ask if anyone has any experience with the multiple double cardan front shaft. I'd rather not put 6 degree arms on the truck because I like the way it drives with the correct stock caster. I chatted with Shawn Woods and he agrees with my situation, I can go multiple directions and it's a tough call. They will allow me to purchase the shaft and try it, if it doesn't work I can send it back for a refund but I just don't want to waste peoples time if someone here has experience with the multiple double shaft and says it sucks at higher speeds lol.

That would correct the castor using stock arms and put further out of spec for a single cardan & double cardan shaft (because it has a 2 inch lift). I've had front drive shaft vibrations with this D1 since I've owned it at stock height and worse with the 2 inch lift.

My gosh, how high are you lifted?? I'm 2-3" BTW
I have a Tomwoods normal Double Cardan shaft similar to the D2 shaft

A used shaft from a D2 may be part of your issue. But yeah you GOTTA get the angles correct no matter what..

A double double cardan; I would NEVER FREEWAY in my life!! My gosh the D2 shafts do enough damage when they go, adding double the failure points would NOT do you any favors..

If your Front axle is 4.7deg off on your shaft, with caster arms, you got something else going on... Mine Eyeballs perfect, again, I have pictures in my post of EVERYTHING...

So either your arms aren't corrected angles.. or Stock D2 shaft is built different.. 5deg is about what I had with stock arms and either DS in it.. Why I bought the Caster Arms/plus was terrible to drive at high speed.

I know exactly where things need to be as far as angles, I’ve spent hours measuring, researching, replacing potential components. I have three options.

- put a stock shaft in it and deal with it - $500.00

- remove 3 degree arms & instaLl 6 degree arms to bring it within perfect spec for a double cardan shaft but too much caster. $700.00

- or leave it the way it is and use a multiple double cardan shaft. - $650.00

Stock shaft, will vibrate like hell and break more stuff.

6 deg arms fixes it. Too much caster? Never had such a thing other than on Track/race cars and choppers.

Multiple DC DS, I already said oh hell no to. Good luck if you do that!

The cheapest way to fix, is to put back to stock height.. The right way to fix it, involves money and compromises.. Extra caster is the Least of all evils..
