My Little Door Panel Project

LOL-should have expected such from you Kennith!

My door panel project includes removing as much sheetmetal as I can, removing the window regulators, replacing the glass with Lexan and a nylon webbing strap with grommets to hold the window up and at various heights. As for the panels, 18 or 22 gauge galvanized sheetmetal should do the trick.

As for Westminster Editions, back when I worked in PDX, I unloaded a new Rangie that just seemed different...

Turns out it was Westminster Number eight and had been ordered by Paul Allen. I got to meet him later that day and then caught Hell from my supervisor for talking to him-LOL.

I don't know why he hasn't mounted them yet.

...Because I do everything incredibly slowly.

I'm still making sure all the doors are cleaned out completely, getting the Dynamat just right, and I'm not comfortable mounting them until the fumes from the Waxoyl go away. I haven't hit all the doors with it yet.

I don't know whether that stuff will eat the foam in the panels or anything in the speakers.

As for the driver side panel, I've got to pull the window in order to replace that damned door lock actuator, and it keeps raining. I've only got room enough in the shop for one car, and I'm restoring the weather seals and interior of the Jag.

I'm also fucking with many of the other panels, as you know, and since they are going in and out fairly often, I figured I may as well wait to put the door panels in to give me a bit more room to work.

Cheers,

Kennith

ding ding ding

I always liked those Kalahari seats with the "technical cloth" or whatever centers. I'll upholster my seats when I get done screwing with the Jag interior.

I've been thinking about going with cloth centers, and even using the thicker Alcantara that's designed for the purpose. It's just a thought, though. The options are pretty much unlimited. I really like full leather seats, but I might try something different.

Either way, they will probably end up being two-tone to match the rest. What I really need to do is fix the damned headliner. I pulled it out to mount some things for a trip one day, when when I returned home, I found that the damned cat had destroyed it.

When I had it upholstered, it came out worse. Those guys sucked. It's full of little finger dents, and they got glue all over the trim. I wasn't about to have them fix it, so I just squeezed a bunch of cash out of them.

I thought about using undercoating or bed liner. I've never really seen it up close, though, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. I know the dark headliners I've seen in pictures here looked pretty cool. The contrast with the trim is neat.

Cheers,

Kennith

My '96 D1 came with a Line-X'ed headliner. It's black and does offer a nice contrast to the lighter trim. It has the potential to be white trash as Hell, but I like it.

Also, I think the best looking interior on Disco's is the Westminster that had black seats with grey piping.

I sat in a Westminster Rangie back in '07ish. I looked at my kids and wondered if I could sell one of them to cover the cost (it listed at $105K).

Damn was the interior nice.
