Just bought some sweet tix for the Nationwide race at Bristol on March 15. Any Rover fellas around the area and going to the race? I am debating whether coming up there on Friday, but I realize I am way too late in reserving a hotel room. Soo, if anyone is around there ;) it would just be me and the gf (She loves NASCAR). Would love to meet some fellow enthusiasts and talk Rover/NASCAR.

Separate note, I have been doing some research as to approach my first time, I thoroughly enjoy being a "touristy" fan and enjoying everything there is to offer and gather the full experience. What do you all recommend for a solid NASCAR experience. Granted, I'll be there for the Nationwide race on Saturday opposed to Sprint Cup but I am sure there will still be plenty to do. I love the allowance of your own food/booze, are open containers allowed around the race track? What else do you all recommend? I am on Bristol's website and the schedule of events is extensive, hard to determine what to go to

I know NASCAR isn't popular on this board, but I've gone to a couple of races at PIR. If Bristol is anything like Phoenix, the Camping/Tailgating area should be a good stop. We were offered coke/beer, hamburgers/hotdogs/sausages from people we didn't even know. You can find people with BBQs, Smokers, even people cooking up lobsters and crawdads (don't want to ask where they got them in the desert).
The autograph booth is always jammed. A good place to people watch. (Think Springtime in Az with girls in short-shorts, tank tops and a nice tan).
Rent a scanner and headphones to listen to your favorite driver or track officials. You hear a lot more than the PA announcer.
That's about all my suggestions. Even if you don't like racing, most of the big races like this are a spectacle to behold.

I grew up 20 minutes from the track, went to every race till I moved to Uganda.

Open containers - absolutely. Plenty of drinks to go around. Take your own drinks in, bring a good cooler.

The entire surrounding acres of the track fill up on race day with things to do. Just go walk around. Buy some Ole Smoky Moonshine - stuff is real good.

Rent a nice headset for you both. It completely changes the experience when you can listen to the crews and drivers talk.

Purchase a case of Busch gold toppers. Consume, people watch and enjoy the race. I think if you have a soft side cooler you can bring whatever in as long as it's not glass.

Obviously it's a little late but everytime we go to a race we camp if we can't get there and back in a day. Farmer Bobs is a great camp ground. If tent camping get a spot away from RVs they run generators 24/7. Atvs/golf carts are welcome here.
