My wife and I are heading to DC on Monday. We will be there until Saturday morning. Have stuff planned on Wednesday evening and most of Thursday.

Looking for some recommendations on some really good food. Maybe something off the beaten path. Where do the locals go? Anything near Dupont Circle? We are staying at a hotel down there.

Also, last time we were here, we did a rush tour of most of the popular places. Any recommendations on must-see places? Last time we didn't get to see the Natural History museum or the Holocaust museum. Those two are on the for-sure list for my wife.

We will probably spend some time at the Irish Pub and the Dubliner. Had fun there last time (as far as I can remember:D )

Thanks guys!

You'll fit in at Dupont! Kidding. Actually it's a nice area. Plenty of eats and close enough to all the other areas you might like.

Make sure you at least hit up the Brickskeller. It's just a few blocks off Dupont. http://www.lovethebeer.com/

30 beers on draft and maybe 200 in bottles.

Just walk down Constitution Blvd and you'll see everything you'd ever wanted. Native American Museum is very cool.

LOL! So what you're saying is I might run into you down there?

Thanks for the link. Will definitely check it out.

I guess one of the things I was excited about this time was not having such a strict schedule. Just gonna play it by ear and walk around until we see stuff we wanna see.

Too bad I'm not still there, would love to meet up with you guys for a beer! I concur with the previous suggestions and would like to also recommend a place called Againn - great ever-changing menu that works with local seasonal foods, a fantastic scotch list, and a good ambiance (IE a nice place but no pressure to be anything but casual). For sushi, check out Kaz Sushi Bistro - the Chef is a classically trained Sushi Chef, and ALSO classically trained in French cuisine. The Ahi Tuna shashimi comes with thinly sliced roasted almonds between the fish and the rice - yum. A bit pricey, but I thought it worth it.

If you want to have a "hood" experience, I can direct you where to go also. :p

It was sold and is now http://www.bierbarondc.com/

From what I read it is basically the same place, just new ownership

Hope so. I first went there over 15 years ago. It's a landmark for beer lovers.

There are also a few good pizza places just off the circle. A good one is Paradiso: http://www.eatyourpizza.com/

If you wanna hang out with the likes of JSQ head to M street/Georgetown. Actually a cool place is Garrett's.

One of my favorite most recent eats has been Blue Duck Tavern. Just blocks off M Street. www.blueducktavern.com

For a more casual scene head to Adam's Morgan. Madam's Organ is solid place. Dan's Cafe is a real dive, but a must see while in the area. Black Squirrel is another good bar with really good eats.

Is Angler's Inn any good for dinner? I was kayaking down there last fall and stopped in for beer and horse's ovaries on the patio. Looks like a nice place.

WTF??? I think getting drunk and familiar with a horses ovaries is illegal in Ohio.

Garret-is John Stevens still in Fells Point?

I loved it when I lived in Balto. Things change in 20 years though.

Have fun and be safe there Jason.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! We'll try and hit as much as possible. I think we might have gotten a slice at Paradiso last time we were there.

Matt, thanks for the heads up on the Holocaust Museum. I'll send Ren-Ching a PM.

PT. Don't worry. We will be safe. My wife and my Sgt will be with me. My wife can be tough, but my Sgt is the One the guys have to watch out for. She's 5'2" and usually packing three or four guns at any one time. She is the Rangemaster at our Dept. Used to be a K9 handler. I'll just stand behind her.

Dmitry, thanks. I've heard good things about the Russiahouse. Heard they serve more than Smirnoff...........

emmodg, thanks for seafood heads up.

knewsome, no kidding. Would have been good to meet up for a brew.

Hey, Gus, thanks. We will check out "M" street. Sounds like lots to see.

How's the weather been over there? How's it supposed to be next week?

Thanks guys!

eve thunderstorms, plan on rain after 4pm. Standard course...if you want to do some seafood, and catch some local life Tony & Joe's or Seqouia down on the water is a great place to be on a sunny evening...great crowd.

Citronella comes well recommended.

Ris' is also great - new place owned by the head chef of 1789 - well known restaurant - she opened this up recently and has awesome soups, very good food. Great lady too.

ENJOY!!!

Good! Our Hewlett Packard service engineer was kidnapped out of a parking garage in the harbor area and beaten to death in the basement of a crack house. I was definitely more willing to be judged by twelve than carried by six when I lived there and was glad to find that many of the folks I knew there had the same attitude.

Fells Point was a rough place when my parents lived there in the late 40s/early 50s. When I was there in the early 90s, it was rough but OK.
